Medic Mike Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama gave the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) and its director Noli Romana three months to “shape up or be shipped out.” The mayor gave the CCPO an ultimatum to bring down crime and improve its efficiency. “They should be serious. I already gave my instructions to them,” Rama told reporters. Romana said he gave himself and the CCPO the same ultimatum. “I’ll go for it. (That is) doable. Iyan din yung timeline ko (That’s also my timeline),” Romana said in a phone. He said CCPO needs the cooperation of all 11 police station chiefs in Cebu City. He said he directed the police station chiefs to undertake crime prevention and solution measures. Monitoring “We talked with the mayor before we left and assured him about the matter,” he said. As the mayor is in the United States, he directed Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella, now acting mayor, to monitor the performance of the police. Labella, also chairperson of the City's Police Coordinating and Advisory Council (PCAC), said he agrees with the mayor. “The police should thoroughly and in a no-nonsense (manner), implement their mandate to serve and protect the public,” he said. But he said the CCPO cannot do the job without the help of the community. He said PCAC has been coordinating with the barangays to augment the police force and determine peace and order issues in the community. “The police can't handle this alone. We need to work hand in hand,” he added. The CCPO earlier reported an increase in the number of crimes reported in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2013. But Romana ordered a revalidation of the report, which showed that 500 crimes were allegedly omitted from the Fuente Police Station (now Station 2) in the first quarter of 2013. Station 2 reported a total of 444 crimes in the first quarter of this year. Still, Romana reshuffled some police station chiefs but a week later, the mayor ordered another reshuffling. Rama said the second reshuffling was decided on with Romana’s agreement. http://www.sunstar.com.ph/cebu/local-news/2014/05/26/mayor-issues-ultimatum-ccpo-improve-efficiency-fighting-crimes-344902 I think poor Mayor Rama is going to get himself shot.
