My girlfriend who lives in Masbate has very few English skills.  I am looking for suggestions and ideas (websites??) to assist her with acquiring language skills for speaking and writing.

Thank you.

Can't you teach her?   :)

I don't know about websites,

but is she out of work so she has free time, or working hours suiting going to school?

If so there are educations at High School level (almost) free for grown ups, ment to support them to catch up.  You can ask for such in High Schools, or in TESDA  (=They test and approve schools. They have representation in Cebu city.)

Next semester start now/soon.

I know one of the TESDA testers, but I believe she is on vacation still. You can tell me if you don't find, I can ask her next time we have contact.

((There are almost free educations too at high level only in the English subject, but they are at to high level for your gf  - yet   :)

Look on YouTube that I'd how I taught my wife

I would send her links to grade 1 lessons from there we would chat everyday but I would make her type in English

When I used a word she did not know she would put ? Next to the word

I would then search for a picture of the word

Eg: turkey I would then post a pic of one and she would tell the bisayan word eg: Pablo

I learned many words that way but she was the star learning basic English in 6 months

Its a ongoing process but her English is better than most of her friends now and her spelling is very good because I do not web can chat much I make her type

Hey, Dutchman! I highly recommend Rosetta Stone because the program focuses on conversational English. More importantly, the English accent used is what is considered "standard" (the voice used my newscasters in the US, what is considered in the linguistics circles to be the American version of the Received Pronunciation in the UK).

If written/grammar is more her issue, I would suggest taking either a small group (~4) or one-on-one lessons from a place like Berlitz. Berlitz is a chain of language schools, but I'm not sure if there is one in the Philippines. If you are going with the uni route, make sure that the professor has a linguistics background rather tjan a generic English background. The difference is that someone with a linguistics background can go more in depth with syntax and structure, as well as cover the different Englishes (standard vs social, etc.).
