‘Drug Pusher’ Killed In Shootout With Police

A SUSPECTED drug pusher was killed during a shootout with police in Sitio Riverside, Barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City late Friday night.

Police also recovered 30 medium packs of alleged shabu worth P900,000 and a .45 pistol with five live bullets from Loyd “Vandam” Cabahug.

Cabahug was reportedly a level-two drug pusher and could dispose of more than 200 grams of shabu per week.

Supt. Romeo Santander, head of the Cebu City Police Office’s City Intelligence Branch, said they conducted the buy-bust past 10 p.m.
Somehow Cabahug sensed something was wrong when he handed the pack of shabu worth P1,000 to the poseur-buyer because he bolted.

Intelligence and anti-drug operatives went to his house, but the suspect allegedly fired at them, resulting in a shootout.

Chance encounter

“Amo pa siya gihatagan og chance nga mo-surrender pero dili man gyud siya mao napugos mi ug sukol (We gave him a chance to surrender but he refused so we were forced to fight back),” Santander told Sun.Star Cebu.
The shootout stopped when Cabahug got shot.

Police brought him to the Cebu City Medical Center, where he died a few hours later.

Police also confiscated assorted drug paraphernalia and P3,000 believed to be drug proceeds from his possession.

During the interview, Santander said they were only told about Cabahug’s alleged illegal drug activity recently.

“Makit-an ni siya diha pero mawagtang ra sad og kalit. Nataymingan gyud namo (He was hardly in the area. It was by chance that we met up with him),” he said.

Connection

Santander said Cabahug may have just received a new supply of shabu.
The suspect, he said, was closely associated with a drug lord in Barangay Duljo-Fatima.

Police are investigating where Cabahug operated aside from Barangay Duljo-Fatima.

Cabahug, Santander said, reportedly used to be a seaman.

In Lapu-Lapu City, agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 yesterday raided a suspected drug den in Barangay Gun-ob.

They arrested 11 people who were allegedly sniffing shabu.

But the raiding team, led by NBI 7senior agent Edgar Baldemos, failed to arrest the target of their operation, a certain Jun “Boy” Hera, who is reportedly a big-time drug pusher from Buenavista, Bohol. 
Hera, who reportedly could sell about five grams of shabu every week, was not home when authorities arrived.

Under surveillance

The NBI 7 team, composed of about 20 personnel, raided the house around 4 a.m.

It had placed the area under surveillance for two weeks after receiving a tip about illegal activities there.

An asset posed as a buyer and entered the house and bought shabu.
When the buy-bust was confirmed, other team stormed the house and arrested the suspects.

Aside from the 11 allegedly having a pot session, the team also arrested Zenilyn Taping, 36. She is allegedly Hera’s messenger.

Interviewed by reporters, Taping denied using illegal drugs. She said she was asleep when the raid took place.

She also denied being Hera’s messenger, saying she was surprised when they arrested her.

Another drug suspect, Virgilio Baustista, was dismayed by his arrest. He said he was the one who helped authorities in their anti-drugs operation.

Bautista, a motorcycle-for-hire driver, said he was in the area to drop off a passenger.

Suspects identified

Apart from Bautista and Taping, the other drug suspects are Arthur Cartagena, Aldrin Clavero, Edwin Gonzales Jr., Alberto Ramirez Jr., Zoren Munez, Rene Amoro, Edgardo Colina, Jeremy Cerenio, and Rodel Tampus.

The raiding team also seized several sachets of suspected shabu, drug paraphernalia, mobile phones, among others.

The suspects are detained at the NBI 7 stockade pending the filing of drug charges against them next week.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza lauded the NBI 7 for conducting the raid.
“Lipay kaayo ko sa raid nga gibuhat sa NBI. Pasalamat ko og dako for conducting the raid (I’m very happy with the raid done by NBI. I’m very thankful),” she said in a text message.

Radaza said the campaign against illegal drugs has been one of her priorities since she became mayor.

“I have been telling our local police to strengthen the fight against drugs in our city because it is an effective way to reduce the incidence of crime,” she said.

“I look forward to a more intensive drive against drugs in our city,” she added.
