I made the journey from Cebu City to the Simala church a couple of days ago.  The miracle I experienced wasn't in the church, but the fact our driver managed to avoid hitting any people or property.  Drivers in the US honk their horns when they're pissed at someone, while drivers in Phils. honk to warn you get out of my way or get hit.  Now I know why they say "It's more fun in the Phils."

I've driven through that crane area north of the main part of Carcar many times; seen the one that fell swinging around inches from passing traffic, holding my breath as I crept by as quickly as possible. That has to be operator error, I wonder what the qualifications/requirements are for operating one of those things.

Considering the direction the Crane fell in relation to its position, I gotta say, Mike, I don't think sobriety was one of those conditions! :)

Sent from my Samsung Tab 3 while rubbing 2 monkeys together until they create enough smoke to send signals.

I Have License. I can do that! it has 4 wheels. he said, I normally drive a Jeepney but we are on strike today,

When we built, I asked the Tipper driver what training he had ( He seemed pretty good at the Job.) he told me OH! I just applied for a job and the Boss, showed me what to do.

Mike I have to agree with you. Qualifications/Requirements/ gives me a Headache just thinking about it.

What if there had been a $4 million Boat on the end of the String,

I say String because I have seen some pretty dismal cables, on Cranes here in Dumaguete.

no it is not that they warn you, to 'get out of my way'. They warn you, that they are there because they know, that you might not know it otherwise. Hence the cacophony of horns on the streets in not just south east Asia but also in other places like Africa and the Middle East. I am in the west now and I use the horn differently than before. I might give it a discreet peep as I am overtaking somebody, just to let them know I am passing them. It is not rude to do this. It is considerate. If anything as far as I am concerned, it is the western drivers that are rude, when they lean on their horn and make a right pointless racket, to rebuke somebody.

Flashing high beams, day or night, is the universal "get out of the way" signal in the Philippines.

Smart thing to do, I've almost hit a number of them when they're passing me, often on the right. Windows up a/c, radio on look out.

Now my wife and I know why the traffic on the high way was backed up a long ways yesterday afternoon when she went to the market. It must have taken them several hours to get the crane set back up.

Are you sure about that, first they will have to apply for "international Aid" so that the person in charge can, give some money to the person in charge, so that he can give some money to the person in charge, who is being watched by the person in charge! Which of course is why so much money donated by others gets swallowed up, and the money never really gets to the people it was intended to do, or to the people it was intended for. Then after a time, someone decides enough is enough and the jerry rig something up, get it right side up, and continue doing things in the same way they always have. It's more fun in the Philippines, certainly more interesting. Ha Ha, hey we didn't say it was a "perfect place to live" but it is what it is and we decided to live here any way. I might grumble from time to time about how things are done here, but still happy I made the decision to move here, besides there were things to grumble about in Canada and the UK.
