Ceres Buses Under Scrutiny

They need to fix the whole industry -

Like most things here, it only gets regulated when an accident, happens. they make rules and regulations, Yet Don't/won't employ enforcers.

Those they do employ don't really want to enforce, it is just a job.

"In the wake of the accident, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has suspended the Ceres bus franchise."

Is this a joke or just business as usual with no law enforcement?  If the Ceres Bus franchise has been suspended then no Ceres buses should be on the road.  This afternoon my wife went to Gaisano and returned home at about 7:30PM. She saw several Ceres buses on the high way. What a joke.

Everyone who lives in the Philippines or close to a national highway in the Philippines should look out side tomorrow and I'm sure you will see many Ceres buses still traveling the highways as usual.  Why publish something that isn't true?

Take all the Ceres off the road and the other bus companies will not be able to pick up all the passengers it would cause havoc

The suspension would apply to one franchise, not all Ceres buses.

Jack, I somewhat think it is the natural order of things that an accident has to happen before regulation. There are already too many laws, too many for those who live under the laws to understand and even for those who are to enforce those laws to understand and enforce.

As strange as it sounds, I would like for one more law to be passed, worldwide, the Sunset Law. Any law which is not read in full and confirmed by at least 75% of the lawmaking body every 10 years would expire. It would simplify the code and keep the politicians out of our hair. It would also keep the lazy bums busy because there would be some outrage if they didn't attend the session and a needed law faded away.

Sometimes an accident is just that, when it's not there are laws such as reckless endangerment. It beggars the imagination that the driver did not know that he was in an accident and continued on, but in Los Angeles California USA, bus drivers do not stop either as a matter of policy, last I heard. The company is civilly liable and I wish they were criminally liable if they hire someone who is not fit to operate a bus with many lives in their hands, not just those in the bus but the general public as well.

In the UK that is exactly what would happen, there have been numerous cases, where under the Healths & Safety Acts, companies have been cited and charged with culpable Manslaughter but Robert, we are, where we are and things, will still be the same for many years.

We have, if I remember, some retired Bus Drivers on board here, maybe a couple will chip in on this one.

This is true.  But how many accidents does it take.  You read about bus and ferry accidents all the time here.  And nothing is ever done but talk.  Somebody will pay off the right person and this too will go away.

We ride the Ceres but to Boracay and they pack em in so tight it is unbelievable.  Once the seats are full (usually 3 people in 2 seats) they pack in plastic stools in the center aisle.  So if there is any kind of emergency no one could even get to the door except the front row, and of course the driver.

The one thing you can count on here is payoffs happen and nothing changes ha ha  :tiphat:

Tim when you are going to be packed in like sardines, I say to pick cute girls to sit with you, not the old guy with the goat .

Life is cheap in the Philippines, I am under no illusions about that. I don't expect them to give any more consideration to my life than they do their own peoples so I look and listen and teach those I care about how to float and swim if they ride ferries. :tiphat:

Mike,

You may be correct but if you are then it was poor reporting because the news article said, "... (LTFRB) has suspended the Ceres bus franchise."  It didn't say one of the Ceres bus franchises.

"The driver has likewise been charged with reckless imprudence."  Wouldn't reckless driving be a more accurate charge?  The next time I see someone driving recklessly I should tell him, you are so imprudent. How many people even know what imprudence means?  Most Filipinos are doing good if they know the basic words in English.
