Thomas Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Much monitoring of some of long stay foreigners are made anyway by the new VISA rules (=the new big form to fill).
MikeB Posted June 29, 2014 Author Posted June 29, 2014 Some guy waltzes off the plane, gets a BB stamp and has no further interaction with BI except the 30 seconds at the airport window. No background check, no NBI Clearance, no ECC to leave the country, no extension fees, nada. I guess being married to a local makes you less likely to be a criminal. Right.
JJReyes Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 (edited) I love some of the names in the news reports. The person in charge of an anti-crime unit in an attached article for this topic is named Inocencio (Innocent). An advocate for family planning is Mrs. Concepcion (Conceive). A nun who opposed family planning is Sister Immaculada (Immaculate). There was a town in Pampanga named Sexmoan. It was eventually changed to Sasmuan. I prefer the old name. Once, for 10 minutes, I entertained the thought of buying a small property in this town so I could brag that I was a resident of Sexmoan. i am bob Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 I"d rather be in the Philippines but you can still go to places in Canada like Come By Chance, Conception Bay or, my favorite, She Blows ! Now back on track... I can see the logical side of keeping track of tourists. After all, quite a few other countries do ask people to check in on where they are going. Our own countries used to ask us to let them know where we would be. But there is also too much room for abuse...
Americano Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 I won't be registering for any stupid program like this. I don't see anything good coming from it.
Jack Peterson Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 I can see the logical side of keeping track of tourists. BOB, if the BOI were to there Job Properly, they would know exactly where we are, bearing in mind that we report every 2 months for extensions and now, have to have 2 (two) character references, with Addresses and Phone Numbers, They can check if needed but like most things here, they have your money and the paperwork, gets stuffed in Boxes somewhere. Usually never, to be seen again. Like Americano, I would not be joining anything like this.Too much information that, Just, might, get into the wrong hands. Only recently I wrote somewhere else that some years ago(and that is within the last 5) I joined one of these in Spain( I was over here a lot and I felt it safer to do this) BUT it turned out, that the Brit [ashamed to say this] who was the Coordinator, was responsible for Break ins, car theft, and many other petty Crimes. Basically, passing on Information to some seedy people. So now, I would not give it any more thought. JP :morning1: Morning All.
jon1 Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 I agree with Jack about the too much info being spread to who knows where. I do not fill out the character references. How as a tourist are you supposed to have references if you are on vacation. The Olongapo BI has never handed the form back to me to fill in those blanks. The Olongapo BI has never handed the form back to me to fill in those blanks. And that! my friends, is where the Rot Starts. and YET! if you read the Notes, it quite clearly states, any illegible or incomplete forms will be rejected One has to wonder, what part, of their own rules they don't understand? Then Again, when you are here and have completed your 2nd extension, you need an ACR and this has and Address on it. Then again also, after 90 days, we need to change our Driving Licence. If, we as we are expected and most of us do, follow the rules, there are many Agencies, that should Know where we are. JP :tiphat: PS Jon1, I have a friend that puts his Hotel Address. This can be good as at least, someone can be Looking out for you. Over the last couple of years, we have heard of Deaths in Hotel Rooms but no one, was looking for them! Obviously, they did not tell anyone where they were. For our own safety, we should at least, tell a respected Agency???? who apparently should need to know  but HEY HO here we are. jon1 Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 JP, You are right. It's always the "mileage will vary and be interpreted at each location differently". That's why it is always more fun in the Philippines. If I was truly a tourist, i would list the hotel address. I have listed rental units that I was renting at on my previous driver's license and ACR submissions. The problem will always be record keeping. I have yet to see any government agency here that can do it better than the Yellow Cab pizza delivery folks hehe. I just give them my phone number and they have my address and what I usually order! I do not associate any gathered data by the Immigrations as a safety net but more a liability (if fallen into the wrong hands). Jon
Thomas Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Then again also, after 90 days, we need to change our Driving Licence. Oh that fast! I thought it was 6 or 12 months.
