Three people were hurt and were rushed to hospitals after they figured in a six-vehicle smash-up inside the South Coastal Road tunnel shortly before 2 p.m. yesterday.

According to traffic enforcers from the Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) they were coming from the southern part of the city when they saw a delivery truck and a Hyundai Getz compact car figuring in an accident at the South Coastal Road tunnel.

Traffic enforcers Alberto Ollaban and Isaac Dela Victoria rushed to help the drivers as a motorcycle-riding couple identified as Jose and Annabelle Pimentel also slowed down as they headed towards the accident site.

A speeding boom truck which was exiting the tunnel hit the motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle tried to avoid hitting the Citom multicab, but instead slammed into a passing trailer truck on the opposite lane.

The couple on the motorcycle were thrown off and slid into the direction of the trailer. The trailer van’s driver managed to step on the brakes.

The boom truck however rear-ended the Citom Multicab which was hurled towards the delivery truck.

Dela Victoria, who was in front of the Hyundai Getz, was pushed back.

The Pimentel couple and dela Victoria were rushed to the hospital by Basak Pardo Emergency Response and Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF).

No major injuries were recorded.

Joy Tumulak, Citom head of operations, said the couple were lucky to have survived the accident.

At the time of the incident, the driver of the Hyundai car was nowhere in sight.

Interesting recap, to say the least!  :)   I can see how the accident started because according to the last line, the Hyundai car did not have a driver at the time of the incident.

I wonder how many other cars are running around Cebu without drivers...?

Don't these drivers know the latest city ordinance -- not to make a left turn inside a tunnel......he, he.

We are glad that no serious injuries occurred.  But they are in good hands when our man Doc comes

to the scene.

Well done!
