FIVE kilos of marijuana worth P40,000 were confiscated from two men who allegedly supply the illegal drugs to students in Cebu.

The duo tried to evade arrest when their vehicle was flagged in a checkpoint in Barangay Busay in Cebu City last Wednesday night, but the police chased them all the way to Barangay Lahug.

Christien Marlon Pansoy, 21, of Naga City, and Carlo Anthony Morales, 21, of Lahug, were eventually arrested near JY Square on Salinas Drive.

At 8 p.m. last Wednesday, City Intelligence Branch (CIB) Chief Romeo Santander got a tip that bundles of marijuana were being transported from Balamban town to Cebu City on board a Mitsbushi Adventure.

He immediately alerted the different police stations and gave orders to set up checkpoints.

Route

“If it came from Balamban, it will most likely pass through Ayala Heights and Busay,” Santander said.

With the help of the Special Weapons and Tactics, City Anti-illegal Drug Task Force and the Mabolo Police Station, Santander said they focused on the checkpoint in Busay.

At around 9 p.m., operatives flagged a blue-gray Mitsubishi Adventure, which fit the description of the vehicle shared by the informant.

But instead of stopping, the vehicle sped off, prompting the police to run after the vehicle.

Despite the siren and attempts of the police to ask the driver to stop, the driver reportedly continued to speed off.

Ten minutes

Santander said they decided to fire at the vehicle.

The tires were hit, causing the vehicle to swerve and stop.

The chase that lasted 10 minutes ended when the police cornered the vehicle at the vicinity of JY Square in Lahug.

They found Pansoy and Morales inside.

Pansoy was behind the wheel while Morales was sitting on the front passenger seat.

In a press conference yesterday, Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Noli Romana said the police fired at the vehicle four times.

The first and second shots hit the vehicle’s rear glass window while the third and fourth shots hit the vehicles tires.

Recovered from the suspects’ possession were a 9mm pistol with five live ammunitions, a 9mm magnum revolver with four live ammunitions and several marijuana stalks.

A few minutes after the suspects were arrested, a taxi driver who witnessed the chase reportedly saw Morales throw bundles of marijuana out of the vehicle’s windows.

The marijuana landed on the road.

The taxi driver, who requested not to be named, reportedly picked up the bundles of marijuana.

The driver decided to turn it over to the GMA 7 TV station in Busay. They were later turned over to the police.

Romana said that Pansoy and Morales reportedly supplied marijuana to students from different schools. The stalks were reportedly sold for P50 each, but the price doubles if the buyer is a foreigner.

Same weed

Last month, the CIB conducted a buy-bust in Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City, where several bundles of marijuana were also confiscated.

“There is a strong indication that the marijuana in Inayawan and the marijuana of these two suspects are the same. They (Pansoy and Morales) may be the ones who supply the marijuana in Inayawan,” Romana said yesterday.

The marijuana recovered from the two suspects were still raw while those confiscated in Inayawan were already processed.

Pansoy and Morales, who are detained at the CCPO stockade, will face complaints for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002

"The stalks were reportedly sold for P50 each, but the price doubles if the buyer is a foreigner."  Just knowing that they were selling to foreigners at double the price is enough to arrest them in my opinion. Anyone who does that you already know is criminally minded.
