Group Launches Fund Drive For Yolanda Victims In Cebu

LAWYERS and students from the University of the Philippines (UP) launched Saturday an initiative to help in the ongoing reconstruction and rehabilitation in Daanbantayan town in the Northern Cebu, one of the areas hit by super typhoon "Yolanda" (Haiyan).

Tim Guanzon, project coordinator of One for One Foundation, said the initiative aims to rehabilitate the municipality through livelihood, shelter and education.

She noted that their goal is to "enjoin many organizations and individuals to donate as little as P25.00 to rebuild homes, provide boats and give books for the Daanbantayan residents, fisherfolk and students before the first anniversary of Yolanda's wrath."

Yolanda, one of the strongest typhoons to hit land, close to 18,900 houses were destroyed while 21,500 households were affected.

Guanzon said that their initial target is to turnover some 50 house and lots by December while their other project, the Akap Aklat, aims to restoration four major municipal libraries in the affected town.

Each house cost P225,000 while the initial project cost is P11.25 million.

"We can't rely solely on the government. We have to do our part," Guanzon said.

Golda Minoza said the love of Daanbantayan's municipal government for its people is only matched by the "resilience, patience, and bayanihan of its people." (Sunnex)

Very good to see. That town was still in bad shape last time I was up there.
