Call me bubba Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Seems that the BI is now using a "new visa"sticker that has some new security features The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has started using new "security visa stickers" as part of the government's modernization program to keep up with the global and highly technological practices observed by immigration authorities. The agency came up with intricately designed security visa stickers for temporary visitor's visa (TVV) with several features that are impossible for counterfeiters to duplicate or imitate.Immigration Commissioner Siegfred Mison said the same technology is used in making the security visa sticker for special study permit and long-stay visitor visa extension. Currently, the security visa sticker for TVV is available at the BI main office in Intramuros, Manila; Makati City; Baguio City, Cebu City, and Davao City offices, Mison said. The sticker visa label, which has a self-adhesive substrate, UV dull and rounded corner, bears micro line prints and optically variable device that only specially-trained immigration officers can easily detect. Mison said the new security visa sticker is also part of the agency's campaign against illegal entry of foreigners with derogatory records. He added the newly designed security visa sticker should help in BI's drive against fake stamps. Earlier, Mison had disclosed more than 200 new passport readers have been purchased and to be distributed at airports nationwide to detect alteration, insertion and other signs of counterfeit passports. He said the new batch of passport readers, which is expected to arrive late this month, will go a long way in facilitating and making the inspection of travel documents at the immigration counter more efficient. http://www.tribune.net.ph/metro/bi-starts-using-new-security-visa-stickers-vs-illegal-entrants
jon1 Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 I was just at the Olongapo BI yesterday and no mention of this yet. It will probably take several months to trickle down to the other Satellite offices not listed above.

Hi Jon, did post this before, on my last visit at Mactan BI (5th July) received the new sticker about the size of a large postage stamp, I would say you would get six stickers on a passport page, they have a little bar code on the bottom of the sticker, for checking I would imagine, also the letter you receive with your visa extension details informs you that this letter must be returned to BI when applying for your next visa. I just relooked over my passport and paperwork. I still have the old "stamp" that fills up a third of a page for my Tourist Visa and nothing about this new sticker on my "clearance check paperwork". I do not get any other papers other than receipts when I do my Tourist extensions. I am hoping to get a 13A on arrival after my upcoming US trip :)
SubicSteve Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 "The agency came up with intricately designed security visa stickers for temporary visitor's visa (TVV) with several features that are impossible for counterfeiters to duplicate or imitate" Why would anyone need to duplicate or imitate them. I'll bet everything I own you will be able to buy the real ones directly from the supplier or many B.I. branches.
SNIXX Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 It looks like positive change. Mine is starting to peel off the passport page. Adds an interesting scenario that would not exist with the stamp. Seems security improvements can be a zero sum game because fraudsters just adapt, not sure if that applies with the new stickers but I notice that pattern in general.
