Girl Dies In Carcar Road Accident

A nine-year-old girl was killed after she was hit by a passenger bus while crossing the road in barangay Bolinawan, Carcar City, southern Cebu yesterday afternoon.

The accident happened while Kyla Faith Alegado, a grade two pupil, was on her way to school.

Pedro Gallano, driver of Ceres bus with plate number GWX-550, said the girl suddenly crossed the road.

Gallano, 55, said he tried to avoid hitting the girl by swerving to the right side of the road but still ended up hitting the girl.

The bus also hit some private cars parked at the side of the road.

The girl was taken to a hospital but did not make it alive.

Police arrested Gallano after the incident.

The driver was detained at the Carcar City Police Station pending the filing of charges against him.

According to the article the driver says the little girl ran in front of the bus and he couldn't avoid her. Do you know otherwise?

That would not surprise me, I see plenty of that in the ambulance going from job to job.

I doubt if a 9 year old has any road sense here.I see adult pedestrians walk into the road without looking and vehicles pull out without looking from a side street onto a main road. I am really surprised that there are not even more accidents.

There are actually a lot more MVAs that happen, only a fraction are reported.

I suppose we only here the big stories, the ones money can be made from. The small ones are left to local gossip and are about as factually true as the reporting in the newspapers.

Respectfully disagree, it's more like the reporting is so haphazard that some things make the print media, some don't. No real rhyme or reason. BTW, the bus driver was released after the bus company agreed to pay expenses.

Hi Mike

I am happy the bus driver has been released but money had to be paid first. My friend has been at the end of the reporting here and it was about sensationalism not facts so that is why I posted what I did. The press caused so many problems for him he had to leave the phills. As of yet they have not (as far as I can find out) put the story straight which is that the NBI has no interest in him as a suspect.

I'm confused, are you referring to the Tuesday accident in Carcar or something else?
