Alby Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I am wondering ... Is there something that could make the whole network connection VPNed instead of doing it on a device by device basis? I don't want to have a PC hooked to my TV which is VPNed. I want my Roku and Apple TV to connect to Pandora via VPN. It makes sense but don't know about such technique? Any clue? Actually I would like to do it too. https://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0SO8zgY1iJUQU0AuJ5XNyoA;_ylc=X1MDMjc2NjY3OQRfcgMyBGZyA3VoM19tYWlsX3NyY2hjb21wBGdwcmlkA0xfM0tjUDhfUVcySlJLbC53X21uNUEEbl9yc2x0AzAEbl9zdWdnAzIEb3JpZ2luA3NlYXJjaC55YWhvby5jb20EcG9zAzAEcHFzdHIDBHBxc3RybAMEcXN0cmwDMzIEcXVlcnkDSG93IGRvIEkgaW5zdGFsbCBWUE4gb24gYSByb3V0ZXIEdF9zdG1wAzE0MTE1NjkyMzI-?p=How+do+I+install+VPN+on+a+router&fr2=sb-top-search&fr=uh3_mail_srchcomp&type=2button

Alby Posted September 24, 2014 Author Posted September 24, 2014 Thanks folks! So this means your router has to support VPN and access from devices should be to that IP given by your router? The thing is devices like Roku or Apple TV go directly to your router bypassing any extra VPN you might setup on it. What I was thinking is having the Roku go to VPN first then to provider on its own. So I thought this way may be the connection itself can be VPN all the time? I need some research here coz I feel I am a bit rusty. May be the Philippines weather got to me :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
MikeB Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 There are some VPN services that offer multiple simultaneous connections with one acct. They cost a little more then standard but you don't have to touch routers.
Alby Posted September 25, 2014 Author Posted September 25, 2014 Thanks Mike! The problem I see is that one has to have a VPN for every single device he touches? So, wouldn't it be better if your network is on VPN whenever you connect anything instead? For instance, you have to start the VPN client on your PC and wait until it connects then you can do what you like. But if your network is always on VPN, then you wouldn't worry about anything. Devices like Roku or Apple TV don't know about VPN. They just connect to a network. Joking wise... Let's go to China and make such a device :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If you have a built-in rounter with your DSL, I assume you just plug the Strong router into your DSL router. I did that at my last house so I had two wireless networks and it worked fine. Edit: They have a diagram here and it does work that way. http://www.strongvpn.com/vpn_routers_new.shtml However, they charge $30 more a year for the VPN if you go this route. Might be better so set up your own router. Edited September 25, 2014 by OnMyWay

Whenever I can't connect to Time Warner (in southern CA), Judy usually saves my butt. I have no idea how she does it. She alway says I'm downloading too much porn......he, he. Malcolm Graham Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Reflash your router with DD-WRT. Linux router firmware. Then set up VPN on the router. All the information is on their website. Free for private use. You do need to know the exact model of your router.
