Jake Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 (edited) Ok I think I have seen just about every you tube or other home video or small time docu type shows about the Phils Some very good , some with crazy advice . I watched it to the very end because I too, was intrigued with morbid curiosity. To have a fair and balanced perspective of her father's point of view (his Canadian wife passed away), I could see his loneliness and having a younger relationship that would rejuvenate his old heart once again. But I could also see the anger of his daughter (in her forties) when the marriage application in Hong Kong fell through the cracks -- her father secretly planned to get married in HK because he thought his young Filipina was in her early 20's. She was only 17 at the time....... The father-daughter relationship is now broken. Whether or not her father went back to PI, remains to be seen. It was such an emotional experience, played out by countless Kanos visiting the Philippines in search for love gain and then love lost......but the lust is still there. Thank you Cebu Rocks, respectfully -- Jake Edited October 8, 2014 by Jake spil chek
MikeB Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Very powerful story, interesting to see it from the perspective of the foreigner's family. If the man was struggling financially I couldn't help but wonder who paid for the vacations to HK and Bali. Given what came out in the film I don't think I would be hanging around the Philippines if I was him. I wish the subs had been in English, some of the dialogue was hard to hear. Thanks for posting it.
robert k Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 I turned it off as soon as I saw someone who wasn't scamming and displayed integrity....so I missed the end credits. I snorted several times, sort of you would cry if you didn't laugh. I wonder if it were the mans idea to bring all together or his daughters, I'm guessing daughter. I really did laugh when the grand daughter was jealous about a phone and laptop and wondering how Girly rated? I'm certain the grand daughter could find a 50 year older man in Canada who would give her a Blackberry and a laptop if she would marry him. At first I thought it might be a misunderstanding, the foriegner telling Girly that he was a millionaire, piso millionaire? But that seems to not be the case either, or possibly was? They were all scamming and probably deserved each other. I do have to disagree that Girly's whole life would be ruined as the man did not look long for this world without the very best of medical attention and marriage, as far as I know, is an honorable estate, as is being a widow. It will be interesting to see what everyone else saw. :tiphat:
Methersgate Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 I watched most of it; the Netflix connection kept shoving in thirty second advertisement breaks.Freddie Aguillar, anyone? There is a point at which the age difference is not something that I can easily cope with, and it did seem large in this case.I can perfectly understand her family. Sex with a 16 year old is not a good plan.
brock Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 When it boils down to the nitty gritty, The guy is a Pedophile.
Hewy09 Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 I'm of the same thought as the guys daughter. It's wrong for this guy to have a relationship with someone so young. And it is of a pedophile nature as Brock mentioned. Sent from my iPhone. buhay ay mahusay na! magsaya.
Dave Hounddriver Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 There is a point at which the age difference is not something that I can easily cope with When it boils down to the nitty gritty, The guy is a Pedophile. Hmm. I cannot watch long videos on my Internet connection but these comments got my attention. So a retiree with a 60 year old woman is NOT a pedophile, and a retiree with a prepubescent female IS a pedophile. But some people are turning the gray area in between into their own personal soap box. I have observed that people choose their mate and then make judgments about anyone else who chooses a mate that is younger than that choice If the union is legal then members here need to stop denigrating an entire group of people (May - December couples) based on their own personal prejudice. At least that is how I interpret JGF's ruling that says: From today anyone who posts derogatory terms against any race or members in any post will find that things have changed. The words like Stupid, dumb etc when referring to any race of people will result in the deletion on your post.
MikeB Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Before this goes any further pedofilia (or paedophilia) refers to sexual attraction towards prepubescent children, generally defined as 13 and younger. This clearly wasn't the case in the film.
Methersgate Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 (edited) The film did make me feel uncomfortable, partly because of a sense of "seeing ourselves as others see us" at the start of the film, which is probably all to the good, and partly because of the discovery that Girlie was 17. Had she been 27, I would perhaps have felt differently. In fact the age difference was 55 years, but it's not really the age difference, it is that she was so very young.
