jon1 Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 (edited) So the Phiblex15 is winding down and the USN/USMC are busy packing out. There are currently 4 US Ships in port (USS Cowpens http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Cowpens_%28CG-63%29, USS Peleliu http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Peleliu_%28LHA-5%29 , USS Flint http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Flint_%28AE-32%29 and one other Missile Cruiser that I couldn’t catch the hull number of). The Peleliu is to be decommissioned next year and this is probably it’s last port of call in Subic. It has quite an impressive array of airframes (Cobras, Seahawks, Sea Stallions and Ospreys) and capability. Yesterday they were loading the LHA by an LCAC http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landing_Craft_Air_Cushion ferrying vehicles inside. There are also 6 C-130s on the tarmac at the Airport. It was nice to see plenty of USMC/USN out and about at the mall and local establishments. :cheersty:  It's a shame that Jake is not around. I am sure that he would have enjoyed this. OnMyWay Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I could hear the LCAC about a hour ago, up here on the hill, Usually we see "older" sailors when ships are in port, but this time there were a lot of young guys. Marines, I think? They were always in groups of 4.
jon1 Posted October 13, 2014 Author Posted October 13, 2014 Yes, Marines and Navy. The "older" sailors would be Merchant Marines on the support ships like the USS Emery. I am sure that they have restrictions of movement and the groups of 4 is part of them. The logic is its harder to get in trouble and they are hoping that one of the four will have enough sense to stop any stupid stuff.
