Popular Post BrettGC Posted March 12, 2015 Author Popular Post Posted March 12, 2015 (edited) It's amazing how much perspective can change in such a short time for me. I've been visiting PH for 25 years, both in the Navy and under my own steam, never been there for more than 8 weeks in one visit so I know my view is very much the outsider's. I've had two serious filipina gf's, the first was one I met there, in AC of all places, no, not a GRO. We were together about 12 months, but her insane jealousy of any women on my FB profile that weren't family put paid to that. No, I'm not going to give up my friends that I've known for my entire life and have been there with me through thick and thin, due to your petty jealousy. We met on FC. Aines (SAO - Short Angry One), some of you know the long-term family connection we have, she's Aust/Filo dual citizen and our families have known each other for years; she's financially independent and educated. I visited her many times, we were going to spend our lives together, we even renovated the family house and lot to the point where it would be liveable for me in the back and beyond of Negros Oriental (about 2 hours North of Dumaguete - there's post from a few years back of the progress on this). The sticking point was kids. She has a 16 yo daughter, I'm happy to be a father to any lady's kids, but SAO wanted more kids. I don't. That part of my life is over, aside from the fact I've had a vasectomy. To her credit, she paid me out on my half of the investment. I think the my last visit as a single guy really bought home a couple of things for me. Yeah, the dating sites either paid or not are a great way to meet ladies but be careful. Do not, under any circumstances send money for anything until a face-to-face relationship in real life is established, make that clear from the start. I've never sent money to someone I've never met, ever. Just be there, there are no shortage of opportunities for you if you're actually in the country. Available women will give you their phone numbers if you ask. I guess it's just about sorting the sh&t from the clay in the end and it's a judgement call on your part. Best case scenario I guess is to have a good expat friend that can vouch for a lady via family connections or just do the same yourself. I've seen some disasters both here, and in PH due to internet dating, but I've seen some tear jerking, happy successes too, Davewe, PapaCarl and many others like them on this forum are great examples of that. Go in optimistic but jaded I guess is what I'm trying to say. Edit: You can be fussy and real time on the ground experience beats it all. Larry45 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Nothing wrong with meeting girls online, as long as you're careful about it. If you're looking for a certain type of girl, it's a great way to screen for those qualities. About 3 months before I came here, I did a Filipino Cupid membership, and met quite a few nice girls (including my wife). Then on arrival, I visited wife and she ended up being the same in person, so we then started dating as any couple would. She's a shy, reserved girl, and very busy, so it's unlikely I would have ever met her in real life. That's actually the reason she didn't get much interest online, too shy and too busy. Worked out OK for me, though  As I mentioned the screening process, the dating site helped a ton with that. I wanted a girl 22-30, never married, no kids, college educated, good career, parents still married, very few siblings, no deadbeats in family, etc. It would have taken a loooong time, if ever. to find that if I was meeting each girl in person. So in my case, the dating site was a good tool. Of course, once you meet them in person, you really kind of "start over" in the dating process and take it from there. :)
