robert k Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 That is some very interesting background information, thanks for that. Well now all the new flights are booked, and there are no refunds with Nok air (connecting flight) and the refund policy of Air China will be interesting to test as well... all in all about 1'000 Euros spent on this lesson, as you can imagine I'm not very happy. I might be Swiss but I'm no money-sh&tting pig. There was a deeper meaning. The deeper meaning was that if you had searched threads relating to Filipinos traveling that you would have learned much in advance. I have never heard a story about a Filipino travelling where it was said, ""they never even looked at me"". That tells a story in itself. See above. You can't always know what you don't know. And since this isn't even an issue anywhere else in SEA I simply didn't expect anything like it. Even my Chinese colleagues seem to have an easier time travelling abroad. See above where Earthdome said"" Repeat after me, the Philippines Expat Forum is your friend"" or most any other Philippines forum for that matter. If l don't know someone with personal experience to ask about anything l do here, l google search this site. I can understand not wanting to learn all you can about the Philippines but I would search everything that might impact my plans until l had departed. I have found some constants about the Philippines that apply to living on just about any island, other than that virtually nothing has been the same. I have discussions with a friend of mine here daily and when we come to a topic on why the Bureau of Imigration does something a certain way, the only answer l can think of is because they feel like it. Good luck.
Jack Peterson Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 OK so now we have the Primary Inspection done, it is the Secondary Inspection that would worry me and this is why I suggest a visit ( or Phone call) to the BOI I have posted a link on Exit of a Female National and what the Immigration may or not do. http://www.philippineembassy-usa.org/uploads/pdfs/DepartureFormalities.pdf For those Following the topic and are maybe, getting Confused, it shows that a lady needs to go through quite a lot of Rigmarole even if she has a Legit reason to leave the PI ( Tourist Work or Marriage) FTB I sincerley hope all goes well, if you are ready to leave, keep a tight hold of their Hands my friend. Bon-Voyage. Maybe you will let us know how things turn out. JP :tiphat:  Morning All.
afathertobe Posted November 7, 2014 Author Posted November 7, 2014 Thanks Jack, she called the BOI and got told that the ECC for my son would be difficult to obtain as he has another man's family name still. But after checking back with our lawyer he confirmed that with the DNA tests and the court documents in hand, as well as my presence we should be able to leave, fingers crossed. What a pain in the behind... but oh well, let's hope it will get easier in the future.
Methersgate Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Definitely better, second time round. Just to encourage you, this little chap on his way back to Clark from a visit to Disneyland (and the rest of HK!) with his mother is no biological descendant of mine, yet we were, as you see, allowed out!

Americano Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 One more bit of advice. A lot of Filipinas are very shy and afraid to speak up especially in situations they have never been in. Therefore you and her need to go over possible questions and the correct answers both of you will encounter at the airport. And, you may need to encourage her to speak and not be afraid. If she seems afraid then it could be a Red Flag to the Immigration Interviewer. Also you should answer questions when its appropriate and provide information that will help ensure she and her son are allowed to leave. Have all of your documents together in your carry-on bag. Your behavior is very important too. Smile, speak slowly and clearly, be courteous and polite. Even holding the little boy will get you extra points :)

afathertobe Posted December 11, 2014 Author Posted December 11, 2014 After a somewhat lenghty interview at immigration with lots of questions asked to me in English and her in Tagalog we managed to board the plane in the last minute and are now in Thailand. So leaving together seems to work, if only I could find out if next time she can leave alone as well that would be great.
