Gator Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 For those not aware of it, "Easy Taxi" is now in the metro Cebu City area. I've used it twice so far and am very pleased with the app. Of course if you're in a mall or along a main road it's fairly easy to flag a down, but if you're off the beaten path a little then the app is very helpful. http://www.easytaxi.com/PH Naturally, you need a smart phone (or tablet, etc) with a net connection to use it. Set up is very simple, they only ask for a name, email addy and phone number (they SMS you a confirmation code when you first set it up). The driver's name, taxi number and his real time location are shown along with an ETA of his arrival to your location. You can also enter your destination and get an estimate of the fare (note it's only an estimate based on distance and average time; during peak traffic hours it may be a bit more). And unlike "Uber", which you can link to a credit card for payment, that option is not available (at least not yet). Payment is made directly to the driver.
Dave Hounddriver Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 if you're off the beaten path a little then the app is very helpful. Agreed. When I lived in Liloan Cebu the worst part was trying to find a taxi. I would have loved that service. Fortunately I noticed on my last visit that taxi service is actually getting better, as in more of them and easier to find one.

(app gives space for u to write the tip you give)
Gator Posted November 3, 2014 Author Posted November 3, 2014 plus you have to commit to tip a bit more really. (app gives space for u to write the tip you give) Maybe on an older version of the app that was true. For the version I downloaded 2 weeks ago you do not have to commit to tipping the driver in advance, but yes, you can do so if you want to. I see that option as an incentive in case you're really out of the way; like say up in Busay at Tops. As I have limited data on my phone (Smart Mega 250 plan with 100megs) I book the taxi and once the driver is en route, I shut my cell data back off and I put my phone away.
sandwichmaker Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 shame the app cant magic up taxis in towns which don't have any, or where the min charge is 300 :D
