Many have come to this conclusion, only to find if they own the car and their wife or hired driver gets in an accident then they still gotta pay.

From what I know and have been told that is correct. But any criminal charges like the usual "reckless imprudence resulting in..." could not be applied to the non-driver so, from a liability perspective, I believe there are advantages. Hope I never have to use it but I'm glad I bought that dashcam.

to get hit by a car ON PURPOUSE and then demand very HIGH INDEMNITIES and the American court system let them? !!!

Good point Thomas,,,, However its the exception and not the rule. In fact the American insurance companies spend quite a bit of money to investigate such accidents. Not long ago, the District Attorneys office in Los Angeles prosecuted a ring of fraudsters who did exactly as you describe.

Yes. I did know that, but forgot.

So I suppouse I better hire drivers with OWN cars for business transports, than let an employed make the deliveries in the car I have anyway for personal travels.  (To inconvinient if have no own vehicle when living rural.)

Well. Sure there are insurance frauds in Sweden too (mainly within the obligatoric insurance system, which the Swedish state have)

BUT in Sweden it's no point to try to fraud concerning real injury indemnities, because such pays are crazy LOW here.

I look at a documentary now concerning Bangkok, but I guess it's much similar in Manila.

14000 injured/dead in Bangkok traffic per year.

(Almost all ambulance personal are volontares!)

Drivers not teached to drive.  Crap quality helmets.

Ambulance driver said 90-95 % of their actions concern TRAFFIC accidents...  :(

So we need to worry much more about traffic than being murdered     :)

That's the headline but it was actually a mini bus. So the victim, who was riding a motorbike and had no driver's licence and no registration or tags on the bike, attempted to pass one vehicle, hit it and as a result swerved into the oncoming path of the mini bus who's driver is now detained in jail pending charges. Make sense?

"Monday, November 3, 2014

A MAN died on the spot after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a car on the national highway in Barangay Puente, Carmen, Cebu at 2 p.m last Sunday. SPO3 Danillo Laurente of Carmen Police identified the fatality as Aldin Apuya Comaingking, 31, married, a resident of Barangay Corazon, Catmon. Comaingking’s motorcycle picked up speed, trying to overtake a Kia Picanto driven by Daniel Stephen Cañete Pajarillo from Barangay Ibo, Lapu-Lapu City. Comaingking hit the left part of Pararillo’s car, causing his motorcyle to swerve into the opposite lane, where it was hit by a Fuso Fighter Mini Bus driven by Rogelio Escribano Padilla, 47, and a resident of Barangay Bagasawe, Tuburan. Comaingking, who was driving without license, suffered from severe injuries and died. His motorcycle had no plate number. Comaingking and Pajarillo were on their way to Cebu City, while Padilla was heading North. Padilla is presently detained at the Carmen Police Station while police are filing appropriate charges for him."

"Make sense?"  Of course it makes sense to put the innocent mini cab driver in jail.  If he wasn't born then the accident wouldn't have happened. Its his fault for being born. It doesn't matter if the motorcycle rider caused the accident and didn't even have a license to drive and the motorcycle wasn't registered and therefore illegal to be on the highway. Make the innocent man pay because he was born and didn't die in the accident.  This is the way some Filipinos think and the legal system works.

"police are filing appropriate charges for him.Filing charges for him or against him?  My guess is against him.

Alright, so who here actually believes a dashcam is going to override the testimony of an "Eye witness?"

Problem is a Lawyer can make others think dog really spells cat. So again we are at the point of what do you call a bus load of Lawyers driving off a cliff?

A good start!

I wasn't even thinking about a courtroom, these things are almost always settled long before that because the people here know how dysfunctional their judicial system is. Most of the time they'll accept medical or funeral expenses with a little extra but not always and maybe not so much if a foreigner is involved. So having a video of what actually happened could be a valuable anti-extortion tool. Then again, if it was actually your fault you can say "Dashcam? What's that?"
