Larry45 Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 A few popular local foods not mentioned, that happen to be my favorites are : Bicol Express...spicy pork belly Pinakbet...mixed vegetables sometimes with pork Sisig...various pig parts (don't ask/don't tell!) with an egg and rice Kalbasa...summer squash usually cooked with coconut milk Available at eateries / carendarias everywhere, although sisig is made to order, so not always available. And you should try the balut at least once. Some guys love it and some hate it....it's a lot like marriage :D

i am bob Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 A Filipina that works at the hotel I was staying at in Calgary said while in Cebu to try Lechon something. Said it was boneless pork rump roast rolled in spices. Anyone know what she was talking about. The one your friend mentioned is the boneless lachon baboy and is the pork belly with spices and sometimes lemon grass rolled inside - depends on if it's the Cebu or Davao recipe. A regular/normal/usual Lechon baboy is the whole pig roast with the spices stuffed inside. The boneless version is great for smaller groups. :D

Tukaram (Tim) Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 The Cebu pork belly lechon is very good. We have a restaurant, from Cebu, here that serves it. Very little fat or skin, just good meat. Lechon is usually too fatty. I did not go back through 3 pages of posts... but has Chika-an been recommended? It is a good Filipino restaurant from Cebu. They have a pechero steak that is wonderful. It is like a roast beef on the bone (it is a joint of some kind... elbow/knee I don't know).
