jpbago Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 (edited) We went there this morning to buy some vegetables and were surprised to find that there is an excellent covered food court at the back center with about 10 or 12 stalls offering different foods, all that looked great. We had tasty paella, lasagna, and palabok for 100p each with fairly large portions. Fruit punch was very fresh too. There are about 25 vegetable stalls, some baked goods, some preserves, and one fish stall. All of it was fresher and better than SM supermarket and our local market. Some prices were lower and some were higher but all of good value. Bring your own heavy bags. We bought the regular things as well as mushrooms and beets that are difficult to find in our area. It is open only Saturdays until 5 pm. 9 am to 11 am would be the best time to go. Location is on Magsaysay Ave halfway between Araneta Ave and Lacson St (Luxur Place corner) at the intersection to Goldenfield's. JJReyes Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Farmers Markets are the new rage in the Philippines. In Manila, parks near the wealthier neighborhoods convert into vegetable stalls and eateries either on Saturday or Sunday. Some emphasize fresh produce while others offer cooked foods. I like them as a source for fruits that were familiar during my childhood, but normally not sold in supermarkets. The example is duhat, a deep purple berry guaranteed to turn your tongue and mouth violet. I also like the black paella. The color comes from the squid ink.

I like the fruit better. Will have to try the Makati Farmers Market in future.

Delighted with the selection of foods, fresh produces. Excellent variety of different lettuces and other products. We loved the Japanese sushi plus the organic juices. Pleanty of people which made finding a table quite difficult how ever with patience can be done. Finished off with the carrot cake on the lower level, freshly baked by a very pleasant Spanish couple running a small business. Also they are most helpful advising different hard to find places inBacolod. Altogether a very enjoyable fulfilling three hours spent there.

We were there Saturday morning too, about 8 to 9 but did not see any other expats. You must have been there later. I see that the market is open on Sundays as well as Saturdays now. In the fruit section to the left, the small yellow bananas are very good as are the mushrooms (not sure why the mushrooms are with the fruit). We got beets and goat cheese again that they did not have last week. Total was 1200p for 2 bags of veggies. The lettuce is good but only for one day as it is so loose.I wish that the market was closer but as you say, it fills 1/2 of the day.
RBM Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 Goats cheese definitely interested. We did not spot any cheese there so if you could explain location be great. We were there around pm. Bit off topic how ever worth a mention. Citi hardware Lacson sucks......customer service stinks.....told manager tI was intending to spend around 1/2 mill on construction materials today.....he was to tired to be off service or even find me a boy. Citihardware on Bago highway fantastic, helpful, considerate and oh so funny. Had a great time, heaps of laughs ! spent our money...happily .. Final off topic comment, perhaps somebody can inform me why all Bacolod restos demand p300----500 corkage. Museum cafe with fantastic food would rather loose our group of big eaters than charge less than p300 corkage. Spoke to owner, he would not relent, place was almost empty even with a jazz band, but he would rather loose our business than back down on corkage. Showed him sticker wine cost p605 and I not prepared to pay 50% of this. Sure he sells wine, how ever could not see anything suitable. Owner is Dutch.

Mike S Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 Citihardware on Bago highway fantastic, helpful, considerate and oh so funny. Had a great time, heaps of laughs ! spent our money...happily .. That is the only place we go for materials here in Bacolod ..... there is a really nice looking young guy in the electrical section (he seems to the one in charge there) (didn't get his name but will next time) this guy really knows his stuff and can answer all your questions and give suggestions ..... while they carry a good supply of stuff they are lacking on the finishing touches and while they do have a goodly stock of stuff they run out a lot .... we went there yesterday and bought all the dual receipticals of the brand we needed and had to settle for some receipticals with triple plug-ins .... but we wanted the same color and brand ..... found everything else we needed except the wire which we got downtown in an electrical supply store .... Finally going to get to wire Ma's house down south ... offered to months ago but they kept putting it off but now they have to as my 2nd assistant (J is my first  ) is leaving for Manila end of this month .... nothing fancy just new breaker box (they don't have one now) receipticals .... lights and wiring .... they just have extension cords run everywhere now and has been for 15 years ..... :cheersty:
