JonPalawan Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2014/12/02/1398139/oil-firms-cut-diesel-prices-anew says "Oil firms announced yesterday they would slash diesel prices" to which I commented "If half a peso (about 1%) price decrease is called slashing the price, what term would you use for a two peso decrease? According to thefreedictionary.com/slash, the seventh definition for slash is 'To reduce or curtail drastically: slash prices for a clearance sale.'" and they wouldn't print it. I s'pose my comment isn't related to the content, but rather the delivery. But I'm not actually criticizing the reporting, as they're simply repeating what the oil firms are saying.
JonPalawan Posted December 2, 2014 Author Posted December 2, 2014 So, I resubmitted my comment, modified to read If half a peso (about 1%) price decrease is called slashing the price, what term would oil firms use for a two peso decrease? Would a two peso increase be called a minor increase? and this time they posted it. Maybe their objection is the inclusion of a URL. Several months ago I had another comment rejected, and it too included a URL.

Call me bubba Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 (edited) http://manilastandardtoday.com/2014/12/07/petron-unioil-lead-hefty-price-rollback/ Oil companies cut pump prices by P2.50 per liter of gasoline and P2.25 per liter of diesel and kerosene, the biggest price rollback so far this year amid the softening world oil prices. Petron Corp. was the first to announce the price cut that took effect at 12:01 A. M. December 7. Petrol and kerosene products in Petron line-up were covered by the rollback. Unioil Petroleum Philippines followed suit, cutting its price effective at 6 A.M. Sunday. Pump prices at Unioil went down by P2.50 per liter of gasoline and by P2.30 per liter of diesel. As early as Friday, industry sources hinted at the price cut, a move that the Energy department practically confirmed also on Friday. Energy Undersecretary Zenaida Monsada earlier said local oil prices would likely continue to decline. “The indications are it will decrease, because there is no reason for it (not to decline. Yes, we’re expecting rollback for certain products,” Monsada said. Last December 2, the pump prices went down by P0.50 per liter of diesel and by P0.75 per liter of kerosene. Gasoline was steady on December 2. Jon Palwaan here is your answer (perhaps)----MEASLY If half a peso (about 1%) price decrease is called slashing the price, what term would oil firms use for a two peso decrease? Would a two peso increase be called a minor increase? ............................................................................................................... The oil industry player announced the price cut amid consumer concerns that oil firms have only announced MEASLY cut in their prices last week although world prices have gone down by some 30 percent since June.
