Popular Post RBM Posted December 11, 2014 Popular Post Posted December 11, 2014 This is a bit of a long story so will attempt to summarize. In a small kiosk close to our place we often enjoy a beer at night. The old woman whom was the local peanut vendor became rather attached to my GF We always bought far more than we could at so as nice to give them out. My GF lost her mother a year ago so suspect this plays a part in the attachment. Over time we learned this old woman lived alone, never been married and amazingly next to no family. just a sister whom was not so close. Upon returning from Cebu a couple of months ago she was no longer around. Long story short my GF tracked her down. The small cage where she has lived for 35 years is disgusting I am unable to describe it. As bad as it can be. Anyway, she is not far from death. We have made her life a little more comfortable, she never asks for anything and cry's every time my GF visits, hates her spending any money at all. First time I have seen first hand such a sad poverty stricken situation. Appears she wants to slip away, although she is in obvious pain she in denials that this is the case. She firmly refuses a doctor or hospital. She will not allow us to spend in spite of her situation. Have been to the local pharmacy with no success, NEED A NAME OF STRONG PAIN KILLERS that i can purchase preferably without a doctors prescription. I will be in Cebu today and would welcome a name of a pharmacy or some where when i can buy the latter. I will add a couple of pics, reason, to help our awareness of these situations so close to home. I hope this OK with the mods. If not I understand and feel free to delete same. I do not want any donations, we are able to fund the small amount required, just advice, suggestions.
Forum Support Old55 Posted December 11, 2014 Forum Support Posted December 11, 2014 A local Doctor may do a house call and prescribe something appropriate for the woman. It would cost more but she would get a safe drug and you would not be at risk in any way.
Popular Post Jack Peterson Posted December 11, 2014 Popular Post Posted December 11, 2014 NEED A NAME OF STRONG PAIN KILLERS RBM, Whilst i admire you thoughts on this, I would urge you to proceed with caution. what you intend to do is prescribe something. this of course could be not a good idea, firstly with not knowing her medical history, things could go very wrong. ( I am sure your conscience wouldn't, cope with this. Secondly of course it may be looked on as illegal should things go wrong. many Barangays have small medical centres that will send out a nurse or a paramedic of some sort to see what can be done. For me, my friend, talk to the captain and tell him your fears and what you can you/he do. I don't want to sound holier than thou or be negative on this but doing the right thing here is very Important. I am sure that the neighbourhood will applaud you for what you are doing, but what will they do if things go wrong? Sorry if i sound a little alarming here RBM please do think on proceeding with caution. I am sure Medic Mike would say the same if he was around. Dave Hounddriver Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Tramadol is a narcotic-like pain reliever used to treat moderate to severe pain. Buy Paracetamol/Tramadol for 15 pesos (when the low cost ones are available) at Generika Pharmacy. The brand name for that painkiller is Dolcet which you can get for 50 pesos at Mercury Drugs. Two tablets kills any moderate pain for a 200 pound man. I would not give anything stronger without a doctor's advice.
RBM Posted December 11, 2014 Author Posted December 11, 2014 Thanks for the replys, guess should of added. My first thoughts were a doctor of course, sadly they flatly refuse to do house calls. Secondly this dear old lady refuses to speak to a doctor, flatly refuse to allow us to bring her to the local hospital. My GF has pleaded how ever she is set in her ways. Jack has given me an excellent idea, thank you, I will have my GF bring the medication ( thanks Dave) to the local Captain and request him to have the barangay administer the medication. Further will try again speaking to the local hospital ( for want of a better word) and try get some advice, last time was useless. Jack thanks your concern and yes good advice. She should not be permitted to suffer like this , my guess is she has very little time left.
Dave Hounddriver Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 request him to have the barangay administer the medication This is a great idea as a Tramadol overdose can be fatal according to Google (although I do not know of that happening).

All good deeds will be punished. Let the flogging begin! :)
deevey Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 (edited) Wouldn't it depend on the type of pain she is sufffering from ? At her age it may just be arthritis / joint pain and an anti-inflammatory might work better than a straight up pain killer to relieve it. Tramadol has zero effect to relieve my neck / joint / back pain which crops up from time to time, however Diclofenac works great (5 pesos for 50mg in Mercury). Pain not known ( she denies it apparently) Shunning Medical assistance will not help her in anyway at all. We non of us have enough Knowledge, Information, (on this poor soul) Medical training or even social Contacts to deal with this Best left to the professionals. I am sure RBM will do his best and I hope he will let us all know how it turns out. Morning All. JP :tiphat: :morning1:
