MikeB Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Hilarious..... "JOBELLE Bascug, a beautiful young woman, has captured the attention of social media users, but not for the right reason. Last August she was accused of stealing items worth P10,000 from a boutique in Mandaue City, where she earned the monicker “the beautiful shoplifter in Cebu.” At that time, Bascug claimed that she was 16 and offered the boutique’s owner a settlement. This month, she ran off after availing herself of the services of a beauty salon in Cebu City. She owes the salon more than P2,000 in services. She was turned over yesterday to the local police after she failed to pay P15,000 for her three-day stay at a beach resort in Asturias town, mid-west of Cebu. Insp. Philip John Libres, head of Asturias Police Station, said they will file today a complaint of estafa against Bascug before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office. Fuente Police Station Chief Wildemar Tiu said that the salon management will file an estafa complaint against Bascug. “That is the lesson learned here. We should not easily trust anyone. Don’t be judgmental, too. Some people would easily believe them because they are pretty, but they turn out to be swindlers. Naay uban na dili sad kaayo gwapa, kato na nuon ang dudahan unya mao diay to ang dili mangilad pud (There are some who are not so pretty, they are the ones suspected, but it would turn out that they are not swindlers),” said Tiu in an interview yesterday. Age Bascug claims she is 16 years old and hails from Sogod, Southern Leyte. When she was detained last August in a Cebu City police station for unpaid items, she told police she was 19. Last Dec. 8, she checked in at Cabo San Miguel Beach Resort in Barangay Uwak, Asturias. Judelyn Cantabaco, a resort staff, told Sun.Star Cebu that the woman arrived alone in a taxi at past 5 p.m. Bascug rented the most expensive room, which is called Terraza, at P5,000 per day. According to the resort’s website, the room is a fully air-conditioned VIP suite with a dining room and living room. It can accommodate four people. Bascug also used the name Georgina Basag, 24, when she registered at the reception. “Wala ra siya nisulti namo kanus-a siya mo-out. Basta nagsige ra siya og extend (She did not tell us when she would check out. She just kept on extending her stay),” Cantabaco told Sun.Star Cebu in a phone interview. On Dec. 11, the hotel owner and staff got worried when they learned from news reports that Bascug is being accused of having failed to pay for services at Nail and Cocktail salon at Raintree Mall in Barangay Cogon-Ramos, Cebu City last Dec. 4.Cantabaco said they asked Bascug to pay for her accommodation. ATM, lost wallet Bascug just told them her driver would arrive bringing with him her ATM card so she could withdraw money from the bank. “Ang iyang gisaad nga 20 minutes naabot nalang og duha ka oras hangtod nagabhian nalang (The 20-minute grace period she asked for was extended to two hours until it got dark),” the resort staff said. Bascug then told them that she had lost her wallet and that her parents were coming over to pay for her bills. The management then asked Bascug to transfer to a cheaper room, costing P1,500 per day. Bascug refused and said she felt secured and at home in the Terraza. This prompted them to turn over Bascug yesterday to the Asturias Police Station and asked her to pay the bills before 3 p.m. or she would be charged in court. No one came for Bascug as of 5 p.m., Libres said. Because Bascug claimed that she is a minor, the police turned her over to the town’s municipal social welfare and development office. She will temporarily be placed in the police station’s Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) room. During Bascug’s stay at the resort, Cantabaco said that a male guest, who is a foreigner, got scared when Bascug tried to get close to him. “Nagsige siya og baiid, maong amo siyang gibadlong (She was hitting on the foreigner. We called her attention),” she said. No meal orders Cantabaco said Bascug sometimes didn’t order meals. “Hatagan nalang siya sa among staff kay luoy man. Makigtabitabi raman siya namo gud pero nahasol gyud mi niya (Our staff would feed her as we felt sorry for her. She would have a chat with us at times, but we have been really bothered by her presence),” she said. In an interview with TV 5’s Aksyon Bisaya, Bascug said she understood that the resort panicked after learning her issues. She promised to pay her bills, including that she had incurred at the salon. “But when she learned that I’m Jobelle Bascug, she panicked. Well, I’m not blaming Christy (owner of the salon) whatsoever. She did the right thing. She did what was supposed to be done,” she told TV5. ‘Money not enough’ As to the salon incident, Bascug denied she fled. “I had cash but it wasn’t enough. I was about to go back, but something came up. (An) emergency came up, so wa ko kabalik. “It was very late. I don’t want the staff to keep waiting.” She also said that she had somebody send the money to the salon through money remittance but the sender gave the wrong tracking number. “I really sent money. I asked somebody. I just didn’t know nganong kuwang ang tracking number,” she said. According to one of the hotel staff, Bascug was inconsistent with her age. She earlier told the staff that she is 23. “Ganina ingon siya nga 17, unya sa mga police, 16 na pod.” An aunt interviewed over tv station CCTN said Bascug is underaged. The aunt showed Bascug’s birth certificate. While the police are trying to find out her true age, Bascug said she is willing to face the accusations thrown against her. “Do I have a choice? I will just try…siguro talk to her and say that I will wait for my parents,” she said during the TV5 interview. During the interview, Bascug said she is seeing a doctor and is aware of the public’s perception about her. She denied insinuations that she has been using her beauty to avoid paying her bills. “I don’t get why people title me as gwapa, sexy when in fact dili ra ba. I am just normal. I just don’t get it nganong ing-ana,” Bascug said. Asked why she returned to Cebu after the incident last August, Bascug said it was her way of recovering from the episode. The owner of a boutique located inside a mall had reported Bascug to the police after she tried on clothes, left her stuff in the fitting room, and casually left without paying. “I came back because I don’t know. I want to feel comfortable in Cebu again,” she said. Bascug said she does not care how people see her as she has her parents supporting her. “Ilang huna-huna is already closed. I couldn’t say anything to convince them,” she said. http://www.sunstar.com.ph/cebu/local-news/2014/12/12/beautiful-girl-does-it-again-381550
robert k Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 I think she has the right of it in at least one instance, she looks OK, l would not call her beautiful. It's not hard to be cute when you're young.
Jack Peterson Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 I am just normal. Hmmmmmmmmm this just about sums it up then. If NORMAL people act like this what chance do we have of recognizing the Scammers?
MikeB Posted December 12, 2014 Author Posted December 12, 2014 This story was on the front page, with more pictures. This is a petty crime and she's a petty criminal being treated like a celebrity. The part where the foreigner "got scared" when she tried to get close was funny.
Jack Peterson Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 The part where the foreigner "got scared" when she tried to get close was funny. :mocking: Good he was not identified, the story might get messy if she does turn out to be a minor. Isn't it odd that The Word (Foreigner) always seems to creep into these Stories, Cute she may be but Not to bright in some areas I think. Disaster if she had said OH! The Foreigner made me do it. JMHO JP :tiphat:
jpbago Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 The part where the foreigner "got scared" when she tried to get close was funny. He didn't want to get stuck with her bills. Looks like high maintenance. Or maybe the unsure age thing.
Jack Peterson Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 The more I sit and think about this the more i wonder how it all happened. I have said on a lot of occasions, I am naturally Suspicious of a lot of things here. Many of us here I am sure, have been in a position of Authority whether it be a Manager, a Supervisor, Officer or Senior NCO. the one thing we all had to do was Follow Standing Orders/protocol, call it what you want. I make no exceptions to the little lady, She Stole Pure and Simple but................. could it have been avoided? there are confusions over Age. Did any one check and double check her ID when she booked into that Hotel. a Youngster requesting a 5.000 piso a night suite would raise many Questions in My Mind. Did the salon Manager/Senior Staff ask, and how will you pay? No! I think once again. GREED has a lot to do with this. I have been in a situation or 2 that has demanded a decision based on past experience and the situation presented at the time. For Starters, most Hotels do or at least should, ask for the first nights payment on arrival. Then they should ask for a deposit for incidentals usually 1 or 2.000 piso in cash or strike at a C/C Now it seems neither of these things were done So they left themselves wide open to some sort of fraud and by Golly, they got it. The salon well, That is just so silly, Any self respecting Business that does over 2000 piso of work on an Already "Beautifull" young lady is surely just trying to Rip Her off. and she did just the reverse. I am not making excuses for this Young lady but one has to sit and Wonder, just who are the Silliest people here  No doubt a good lawyer is going to put a lot of Egg on some faces over this JP :tiphat: :)
Larry45 Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Yeah, it seems weird the resort didn't ask her to pay for at least one night, up front. Maybe 'beautiful' customers get a pass on that. Or more likely, she used her light skin and BS skills to postpone the payment. I wouldn't be surprised if there are several foreigners in Cebu that are very familiar with her and her habits.
MikeB Posted December 12, 2014 Author Posted December 12, 2014 It turns out the "beautiful shoplifter in Cebu" was born July 31, 1998 so she is indeed a minor of 16 but they are charging her with having "discernment" so she is at least partially responsible for her (alleged) criminal activity. She has 2 Estafa cases filed against her from the Salon and the resort, p2k and 15k respectively, and is being held at juvenile detention, bail p40k. The Sun Star is now withholding her real name and using a black bar across the eyes to conceal her identity (after publishing the real name with 4 large color photos, sans bar, in yesterday's paper lol). I can't help but wonder if there would be all this hulabaloo if she was the "homely shoplifter from Cebu" or the "so-so shoplifter". Life's not fair.
