Well said, and if you are not having to pay any rent because you own the house you are living in , well what more is there to say

The more to say is that there are expenses in upkeep and maintenance and renovations. The climate and insects are rough here.

Thats true of anywhere we you live, maintenance and renovation, but i am a great believer that if you keep on top of these things there dont seem to be many big bills that comes along the way

To have a conversation, or to talk to another person.
Me and Hugh Laurie were behind the scenes on the Ellen DeGeneres Show having a good old chin wag as us Brits like to do.

Don't forget

fees for e g garbage

and property tax.

Some, who rent out their houses, seem to have missed thinking of something  :)    because some offer their HOUSE for LESS rent than rent of a SMALL APPARTMENT!!!

JJReyes', on 10 Feb 2015 - 09:08 AM, said: The lifestyle within a pre-determined, limited budget is what counts.       Sorry JJ have to disagree on this statement., in it's entirety This (Your) Topic is about can I Live on $2000 per month.

The reason why I added "Part 2" to the title is because the earlier topic was living on $1,000 a month in the Philippines. Each of us starts with a different amount. Based on my personal situation, $2,000 is sufficient for the Philippines. However, $2,000 is bare minimum for the United States which means I have to give up certain things. This is the reason why the lower cost of living overseas is appealing.

As to $1,000 a month in the Philippines, it would be difficult for me. Hopefully my financial resources remain sufficient that this won't happen.

Being a relative newcomer to this forum and not having lived in the Philippines, I hesitate to give my opinion, but here goes anyway.   While trying to learn myself about this very subject, I have read every thread on this forum (and others ) about this subject that I could find. As well as Youtube videos, web pages, blogs, vlogs, Facebook. If Google, Bing or Ask.com could find it, I read it. I'm not saying that gives me any expertise at all. No sir. But I think it has given me a collective insight. So I believe the true answer to the question is very subjective.

This is the correct approach. Research and arrive at your own conclusion whether or not moving to the Philippines is doable. Some of what you will read is pure nonsense and others, like this forum, will give you a more honest picture.

Pokermike here, hi everyone! finally settled in thanks to the good advice from forum members JJ, John m special thanks. Almost made a big mistake to start ,  i am staying in Angeles with my friends that used to work for me in the casino business. the mistake was liking the first condo i saw, one bedroom , new, nice pool no gym 60,000 pesos for a month. Luckily my poker playing buddies at Aces High poker room directed me to Candy Suites , great pool , new gym , nice pool table only 30,000 pesos a month with no lease. Went to S&R several times to stalk up on my western goods. Not cooking as much as i thought manily because of playing poker so much. John M played 15 tournaments made to final table 10 times for a whopping profit of $423. Its fun and passes the time away.

So, far i am close to my original forcast of $3,500 on my budget and which i think i can lower a few hundred dollars a month. I will not be counting my poker profits which i know now are a sure thing, very weak players. Guessing those profits around $600 per month. I am now convinced you can live here fairly well on just over $2,500 a month. So, far i am happy i made the move.   Later Poker Mike

Agreed.  I am also convinced that the average member can live fairly well on $3,000 a month, or $3,500 a month or on up.  But are you suggesting that $2,500 a month would be the absolute minimum with which you can live 'fairly well'?

In my first year of living in Philippines I thought I would need at least $3,500 a month to live fairly well.  That number has been constantly adjusted downward as I get used to the place and as my tastes in entertainment mellow with age.  I am sure I could now live 'fairly well' on half of that number and I think somewhat less but nto sure exactly how much would be my minimum.

So Mike let me ask you something. I am not a gambler and have no interest but, this profit you talk about. Could this ever be looked at by Your IRS as Income, therefore taxable and even needed to be added to that thing you have to report each year. Cant Remember what it is called but those from the US have to (I believe.) Report Bank A/C holdings over $10.000? In a Foreign Bank for Audit Purposes.

Just Wondering that's all. Nothing Sinister.

Just doing some working out on the figures for the future and yes know one knows what that may hold for us but i had this figure in mind and i have converted it to $ ,

So could i live on $3182 a month when over in the phils, and you know what the figure was great i could do this and that and go here and there and buy what ever i wanted too,

The dream was happening right in front of my eyes, i was happy, so excited, the wife was happy too,

But hang about this was my dream, yes a dream, i could never have that amount because i am retired so no work income,

Back to reality and a cup of tea to calm me down, but it could be worst i could have no savings no plans too ,

So you see its not all bad, plan for your own future its here before you know it, just my thoughts shared between friends
