bows00 Posted December 20, 2014 Author Posted December 20, 2014 No thanks , just going to rent! i am not buying any land over there , maybe a condo but not more than $70,000 US. but right now i ahve no idea what city i am going to settle in. No house for sure, too many problems , yesterday someday was talking about how they are going on their third year of building their house and its still not done. Stated how they just have a few beers and watch the progress , after three years that has to be some serious beer money. From what i read , you can own a condo, but owning a house has issues and no matter what, things can wrong with your ownership. I am not interested in owning something with too much gray area involved. I would like to find something within 20-40 minutes from a beach, with decent shoping. I would like to pay no more than 40,000 pesos per month for a two bedroom condo. Is any one aware of any rentals that meet this criteria please passd on the info to me. I will be homeless in one month, i am going to go to Manilla to fix our visa issues for two weeks, then we are headed to Palawan going to stay there for a month , then headed to Chang Mai to visit her aunt , plan to stay there for three or four months then back to live in Vegas for six months , before settling down in the Philippines. Thats my plan and i am sticking to it , for at least tonight! Poker Mike If you are going to spend more than $50,000 US on a condo, I would look into getting the Special Retirement Visa... I am also planning to eventually buy a condo, but based on the advice I have been receiving, I thought it best to live there for at least a year before plunging in... and in the meantime, I was hoping to save some money on the rent. Are prices really that high there? Or is it you are looking for a pristine beach front joint? So would it be better if I budgeted at least $1000/month to get a decent pad? pokermike Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Bows00 this was off the beach , on the beach every place i looked at for a 2 bedroon was over $1200 a month. i ma hoping to get off the beach a little the problem is i dont see any hise rise condos except on the beach. This is for the Mactan area, the problem is if you dont get beach front you are paying to use the beaches and they are not cheap. the cheapest i found was a dive site used a very small beach, had a snack bar but not that great, it was $10 a day per person , next door the hotel charged $35 to use the beach per person. Thanks jack i will check out your post right now
Dave Hounddriver Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Wow! Are prices really that high there? The top floors of the Quest Hotel are rented out as condos. I thought I might like to rent one for a couple months (about a year and a half ago) so I asked what they rented for. I don't remember the exact number but it was in the high 50K pesos. The advantages were in having all the facilities of a hotel right downstairs and Ayala Mall right across the street. It was too much for me so I did not rent it but if I was a rich dude I just might have.
pokermike Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Thanks Dave, that sounds pretty good , i like that it has everything right there. My be a last choise for me if i cant find what i want in Mactan. i like being near the good shoping, they probably have a good gym their also , that is very important to me. i really dont want to go above that for rental. the beach places i looked at very smal for over 60,000 pesos. Plus no decent shoping around. poker Mike
robert k Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Mactan is a small postage stamp of an island and highly developed/populated, it's no wonder the nicer bits are expensive. There is not that much nice beach so the fees for use are steep. The best analogy I can make are you are looking for a low cost place to live with amenities on the Philippine equivalent of Manhattan. Of course it's going to be cheap, Not! If it were good and cheap, some, more affluent, Filipino family would already be occupying it long since. You could save a lot of money living in Danao, take the bus in for lunch and clubbing, take advantage of the Sogo Hotel, Cebu 12 hour special, repeat as necessary. 50 piso for the shuttle bus Danao to Cebu, possibly up to an hour travel time if you pick the worst time of day. Flag fall on a taxi is 40 piso for comparison. Once in Cebu, most places can be reached for 200 piso or less. It's really cheap to live in Danao, only fair beaches, cheap to access though, 5-10 piso each. Not a lot in Danao, lots of pretty women though, been back a week and just now getting over the whiplash from looking. Personally, I would live closer in, say, Liloan. It would considerably cut travel time. Everyone likes convenience but I think people forget that you will not be working, most of us, and you have plenty of time. :tiphat:
