Things Girls Say

I usually give a different answer every time that question is asked so no one actually knows, except the people who follow my posts here religiously Mwah ha haaaaa.

Hahaha Dave,

Just like myself, we bought a MPV( car ), and nearly everybody asked how old is it or how much did you pay for it.

I refused to say how much, but gave different age ranging from almost new to 3 years old! ( not telling how old it is really  )

I find Filipino's most secretive, even to the point of pretending they never heard you, if you ask a question they dont want to answer!

Yet in other ways their openess can shock or surprise you, like a friends wife openly discussing womens monthly's or asking out loud,a young lady if she was having her periods yet!!! Dont you just love them though :cheersty:

I can ask about prices, because I can be interested in buying one myself   :)  including year to make the comparing relevant,

BUT I would NOT ask what other people earn - except if I think of hire them  :)  so I get a hint what expectations they can have.

Perhaps they are opened about OTHER'S secrets

but secret about OWN secrets   -    EXCEPT if they want to bragg   :mocking:

Best story on how to respond to inquisitive Filipinas comes courtesy of an Australian married to a Filipino. They had been married five years and the question was, "How come you still have no children? Is the problem you or your husband?"

The question infuriated her until she came up with the following brilliant response. "You see Filipino men have short penises and my husband has not been able to penetrate me. I am still a virgin." Talk about shock value and providing fodder for gossip.

The person I am married to is very forthright when asked why we don't have children.  She gives but one answer, which happens to be the truth.  She admits to not having wanted children, for no other reason than that she could not possibly raise a child who turns out to be as much of a brat as she herself was.

Thats always a head scratcher when asked how much you make or pay for big purchases.of course we all can be curious but unlikely to ask bluntly.as far as the many different languages there.i assumed that they may be similar...are the languages all completely different or do they have many similarities in words? If i dpoke say tagalog would i know certain things bring said in other languages? Because i do want to get some words before my arrival.and it seemed to me that tagalog was popular..

Before I left Canada I had a filipina friend who laughed and told me I only needed to know a few words of tagalog and I would have a great time in Philippines.  She taught me those few words and whenever the girls ask me if I speak any Tagalog I repeat them.  I get a laugh almost every time.  Try them when you arrive.  I will write the words phonetically as I don't know the spelling so try to get it right:

Hal-lee  can-ah  sa  cam-ah

My best guess as to the spelling in Tagalog is:  hali ka na sa kama

kama

Cama is Spanish for bed and it is used here a lot so Dave I think seasoned men can sort their minds around the rest

Well. All Filipinos CAN Tagalog,

but many of them, who don't have it as first language, "hate" Tagalog, because they are grumpy finding Tagalog got unfair much higher position than their own langauge...   Most of them PREFER ENGLISH before Tagalog.

That's why I will study the LOCAL language, where I will settle, and NOT bother about Tagalog.

But IF you like Filipino TV soap operas, THEN you better study Tagalog/Filipino

K was born in Mindanao; her father is llonggo and her mother is Cebuana, she was brought up speaking Bisaya, but acquired good English and some Tagalog when she lived in Manila, Her son, my stepson, was born in  Quezon City and grew up there and in Bulacan; he speaks Tagalog and (having gone to a private school where the medium of instruction was English) fluent English. I speak English and... French and a little Putonghua  Consequently our "family language" is English.

I can claim a passing acquaintance with the distinguished novelist F Sionil Jose - he has always written in English because he is Ilokano and despises Tagalog.
