Popular Post Jollygoodfellow Posted January 12, 2015 Popular Post Posted January 12, 2015 If you extort them (foreigners), I myself would arrest you and you better surrender or else I will shoot you),” Duterte said. The above is taken from a story about an Indian dorm manager in Davao and the last section Duterte warns the BI and customs... I like the man :tiphat: Check out the fines imposed in the dorm by visiting the link at the bottom. Immigration, customs warned too Duterte also said that he has not heard anyhing from the Bureau of Immigration and that he would talk to the agency if the allegation is true. “Unahon nako ning Bureau of Immigrations. Mangutana ko kung tinuod ba na,” Duterte said. Duterte also reacted to a case previously handled by program host, Atty. Geraldine Tiu, where a student who is half Filipino, was consistently visited by agents of the BI. Tiu said they worked out on achieving recognition of their client’s Filipino citizenship. The mayor warned the Bureau not to extort foreigners in the city. “Kaning immigration, time and again, kapila ko na ni gibadlong. It’s either tarongon ninyo inyong trabaho. Ug inyong pangilkilan, akoy modakop gyud ninyo. I myself would arrest you and you’d better surrender kay og dili gani pusilon ta gyud mo (I have warned the immigration for a number of times already. Do your jobs well. If you extort them (foreigners), I myself would arrest you and you better surrender or else I will shoot you),” Duterte said. Duterte also warns Bureau of Customs to do the same. “In the past, previous incidents here in the city would tell us that this was the practice. I hope it will stop,” said Duterte. “If you want something out of the aliens here, you have to do it the proper way, invite them to your office, open view,” he said. Duterte said government agencies should not “hinder the progress of the city by giving it a bad name” http://davaotoday.com/politics/duterte-warns-indian-dorm-manager/

i am bob Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 I gotta admit... Before I moved to Davao, I used to think that all these things I heard from or about Mr Duterte was just that - talk. Maybe the part about shooting somebody though it does grab your attention - and helps to maintain his image... But don't ever make his city look bad or you may seriously regret it! He's done a lot of work most people don't know about to make this not only a safe place for everybody but also a place that people will want to come to! It's not often I respect a politician... :tiphat:
Hey Steve Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Our plans in place are to move to Davao where my wife grew up. Being there several times, I have found it to be a very peaceful city /area. I do, however, take that with a grain of salt as far as comparisons go, as all of the Philippines is "painted in red" (shown on previous posts) as far as the areas that are the most safe or the most dangerous.
i am bob Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Actually, that map painted in red? It could cover the entire earth! Now, after saying how safe Davao is, I have to admit I was involved in an attempted mugging last night... Yup! Stepped out of the hotel door and turned right... I was immediately grabbed from behind... One hand was around my leg while one hand could be felt pulling at my back pocket... I calmly removed the toddler who had crashed and fallen into me!!! That's the 3rd time the little guy's done that... I'll have to start counting my cash after...! :D
