Call me bubba Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 It depends on your location? what are YOUR EXACT REQUIREMENTS for power? do you NEED it 24/7 ? (yes we all expect it BUT....) here in Sta Rosa laguna .in the past 6 yrs total power outage is less than 24-36 hrs. depending on how and where your at. about 10 hrs(total) was several 1-3 hrs of maintenance due to transformer. The Only Long "brownout" was this year(of out past 6yrs) and it was about 15 hours (slightly more depending on what part of sta rosa) due to a STORM. robert k Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 (edited) I do not. Unless you have a good sized thirsty generator, it won't power an aircon. I tether my phone to my laptop for internet and l can surf with the laptop for 5 hours, another 10 on my tab phone. I could charge the laptop from the truck also. I have 2 external battery/chargers for the tab phone 6k mah and 10.4k mah there are fans with batteries. Brownouts can be a good time to get out of town. Of course there is no reason you can't have a whopping big expensive and expensive to operate generator so you can stay in your cave. Try to get the quietest one you can. I recommend propane fueled for their low maintainance, because gas gums up carbs when it evaporates, diesels can be water and algae sensitive. There was a long thread on generators some time back, I would search that. Edited January 15, 2015 by robert k
Jollygoodfellow Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Do all you guys that live in homes have the portable generators in case of brownouts? Thats another worry of mine renting a house in Philippines. Might be best to mention what area of the Philippines you are thinking of. Even renting a condo won't necessarily give you back up power and as far as I know most are for emergency lighting.
Forum Support scott h Posted January 15, 2015 Forum Support Posted January 15, 2015 Here in Metro Manila we rarely have brown outs. I do have a generator that came in handy during the big typhoon. We lost power for 5 days. Small generator was able to power fans, computers and tv with dvd player and some lights.

Steve & Myrlita Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 I have a 3200W which is good for what little I have. I have no air conditioners.
