While the newspapers and tv seem to be failing in their jobs here in Philippines, there are social media sites that rise to the challenge of keeping people informed.  According to this site there was a 17 year old girl murdered by an Australian guy near Dumaguete.  If you understand some Bisayan you can read about it here:

17 year old (under age) girl murdered by an Australian who from his name may well be a Moslem. Not good.

This will hit the newspapers in a couple of days. I recall that the murder of the transvestite prostitute in Olongapo last year was first reported on Facebook and only hit the Press two days later.

Dipolog is just up the road from Molave...this is close to home for my lot.

Yes, often they are slow, or don't tell at all.  I have started wondering if information sourses including school are told "from above" (=politicians and church) to not tell some types of news/info, which don't suit to the image the with power want to spread.

E g how come "no" Filipino of them I have asked - although they are from a very religious country -  know Jesus PROTESTED* ???!!!

I know of it, although I'm not religious...

*  =When Jesis protested hard against the commersialism in the "church", and made the market stalls falling, when he was around 14 years old.

Dumaguete cops nab Australian murder suspect

"CEBU, Philippines – A 42-year-old Australian man was arrested by the police in Dumaguete City Sunday morning in relation to the murder of a 17-year-old girl in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte late last week. Superintendent James Goforth, Dumaguete Police chief, identified the suspect as Ali Ali, an Australian national who, based on credentials and the passport in his possession, have entered the Philippines legally. Ali was the subject of joint police operations by the Dumaguete Police, the Dipolog Police and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group for the past three days, after he allegedly killed the minor whose body was found at a room of a pension house in Dipolog last Friday. The Australian was arrested around 11:30 a.m. near a resto-bar along Flores Avenue in Barangay Piapi, Dumaguete City, after operatives had ascertained he was the same person in whose company the girl was last seen, Goforth said. Initially Ali denied he was the one, but the police noticed him, even though he was wearing a cap, because of a bandaged arm, most likely due to injuries "upon hitting her (the victim)," said Goforth, adding that the police were also able to identify the suspect from CCTV footage and information from witnesses. The Dipolog policemen, headed by Supt. Ranie Hacuela, arrived in Dumaguete late Friday evening in pursuit of Ali who they learned had boarded a ferry en route to this capital city of Negros Oriental. At around 4 p.m. earlier that day, the Dipolog Police discovered the body of the victim, who hailed from Barangay Bago in Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte, inside the pension house room, which Ali occupied since January 28. Goforth said he received a call from Hachuela early the following day regarding the killing of the girl, who was reportedly the chat mate of Ali, as shown in Facebook and in the money transfer slips. Initial police investigation further revealed that the girl seemed to have been killed with bare hands by her attacker, as no weapon was found at the crime scene. Investigators though were still waiting for the autopsy results to determine the cause of the girl's death. Goforth said the police learned that Ali had stayed at an inn in Barangay Daro in Dumaguete City since he arrived here. He was spotted earlier and was under close surveillance after police operatives saw his bandaged hand. Hachuela also disclosed he will make a formal report to the Australian Embassy in Manila regarding the arrest of Ali, who declined to be interviewed by the Dumaguete media and said he will just allow the police to proceed with the investigation. Ali will be brought to Dipolog City, escorted by Hachuela and his men, where proper charges will be filed against him."

Filipino Press will commonly rely on foreign news agencies (particularly AFP) before committing to a story.

Could be self protection.

Anyway, here is a more colourful version...

50,000 Oz Dollars has GOT to be wrong.

That is colorful.  If I had a girl 'biting my privates' I would also be beating on her head to get her to get off me.  I can see how beating a young girl in the head may lead to her death.  Thus the wrong I see is being with an underage girl and I am confused about the murder charge.  It sounds like he was just defending his privates.

Yes. Even 50 000 PESOS for fetching him sounds to much...

Ali said the victim bit his privates, which led him to punch and hit her with a shoe.

The suspect said he also thought the victim was a transgender.

Sounds odd it would be BOTH.

I GUESS it's the second - it wouldn't be the first time - and perhaps he got a "bite" WHEN he hit her/him with a shoe.

5,000 would be about right to meet him at the airport. And if she was 17 she was under age.

There must be more to this story

And now for a completely inappropriate comment... Nah... I can't do it... But it does sound like an early attempt at using a similar defense as an earlier incident. (The transgender strangling)
