chris49 Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 (edited) Get them on an insurance plan, either Philhealth or Blue Cross. They have Philhealth. But the co-pay is large. Bullxxxx. The co pay would be for a private hospital sure. Philhealth would give the surgery free. Doesn't help with the waiting list, I agree on that. frosty (chris) Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Hi Meths, I think you did the right thing and if it happens again you will have to think twice. When I first came here my g/f's sister hit me with the medical emergency thing, it wasn't anywhere near what you paid but I found out from another family member that it was all crap. Now if I am asked and I have made it clear that I am not a bank for the family, I just say show me the invoice for the costs that I can check and I will see what I can do, seems to work, the emergency just seems to go away.
jpbago Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Well the most recent development is that my brother in law has told his wife, who has told me, that he will follow the course of antibiotics and see if that does the job, first, before deciding on whether an operation is necessary. Which suggests that he is being careful and not wasteful. Perhaps you could ask them to keep it quiet as to who paid and that may stop any future problems of others in need. Filipinos ask "How much....How much" all the time. Keeping it a secret would be impossible. They know who paid or pays.

The waiting list was, in the immortal words of Barack Obama, "THE WHOLE POINT". He has a scrotum the size of an orange. If you are a rice farmer, that's a tad inconvenient. He has an appointment for surgery in the public hospital under his Philhealth cover, i.e. free, on September 16th Medically I am not of course qualified to make any comment, but it seems that the doctor(s) who have seen him think that he should have an operation. Kuya John Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 (edited) Late call Meth's but may I say that your decision to help financially was very noble. You stated you have sent money and later an operation will take place, meanwhile only antibiotic's have been purchase from the money you sent, caution is needed here old chap. As for asking for it to be kept secret ,( that's a load of balls, oh sorry :mocking: ) what I mean is a secret is something that is told to one person at a time. The way I would put it out is that you have limited funds and you have dipped into them, but your not able to do so in the future. Western Health care, is something about to spiral here in UK. Billions being spent on medical care is now in question with waiting lists and under funding, recently 40 specialist doctor's resigned, they claimed the pressure and stress of trying to cope at the same time as keeping to budget's was too much! Is England becoming a third World Country or are the values being deliberately eroded for private gain? http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/ae-doctors-hand-in-resignations-in-mass-exodus-over-future-of-nhs-hospital-10047125.html Edited March 5, 2015 by Kuya John

I should have been clearer - none of the money I sent has been touched. They are using their own funds and he is still in the public hospital in Ozamiz. K has got "my" money available, in her account in Molave, if my BIL chooses to go for an eariler operation in the private hospital. As for asking for it to be kept secret ,( that's a load of balls, oh sorry ) what I mean is a secret is something that is told to one person at a time. Coveniently, it is also true!
Tukaram (Tim) Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Get them on an insurance plan, either Philhealth or Blue Cross. They have Philhealth. But the co-pay is large. Is this type of health cover available for expats as well? what is the cost if available please? PhilHealth is available but does not really cover a lot... but it cost about p2,000 a year so it is worth getting. Don't know anything about Blue Cross here. And as far as giving money to family... I think that if you can verify it is a real need, and you control when & how much you give, there is no problem. But I have no problem saying "no". :tiphat:

The same doctors who see him in the public hospital will be the one's to undertake the private operation. And with an acutely inflamed area like that, I don't think the could do the op just now anyway. So if they have the money, I guess the op can go ahead when the Doc says. So as I have said, you did give the money and it was the right thing to do. But you did post asking for opinions, and you got some.
