sto99 Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 I live in Cebu and wonder if there is there such a thing as a General Practitioner doctor or Family Doctor? I am looking to have a regular 'primary' doctor for my annual physical and any referrals to specialists. Have not been able to figure this out - as I go through medical offices/clinics and all I seem to see are specialists. Confused! Thanks Bruce
Steve & Myrlita Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Usually, if the doctor is of internal medicine, they are usually ok for general practitioner.
sto99 Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 Thanks, Steve. I will re-start a search at Cebu Doc or Chong Hua. Take care Bruce
i am bob Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 I have found that many family doctors just don't advertise the way the specialists do... Many of them will share a building that is advertised as a Medical Building. Check the listings on the outside of the building and odds are you will find a few. After saying this, the first person to try will find buildings full of specialists only.... :1 (103): :mocking:
virginprune Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 My SO has a regular doctor at a surgery of 3 plus a nurse. It is near the public hospital but independent from it. I'm sure it would be easy to find a surgery like that in Cebu.
cebuseminole Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 (edited) Dr Lamberto Garcia room 208 Borremeo bldg(behind Cebu Doc) He is internal med and gastro, and is kindest, most caring/concerned doctor I have seen here. Have been to him 4/5 times now. He has also been accessible by phone on couple occasions. Was 1st sent to him by VA, but, like I said, have just continued to see him. Other than local lady we here where we live, he has been the best. tel 254-1215 Morning office begins at 10 Afternoon at 4. Make sure to call day before. Gator Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 I live in Cebu and wonder if there is there such a thing as a General Practitioner doctor or Family Doctor? I am looking to have a regular 'primary' doctor for my annual physical and any referrals to specialists. Chong Hua Medical Arts Center located at the southern end of Don Julio Llorente (close to Chung Hua Hosp) has a couple of GP's, though I can't personally recommend one in particular. Jollygoodfellow Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Probably a bit off topic but I see there is a home visit doctor service in Cebu. Doctor callout within Cebu City P2,500. Nurse callout within Cebu City min P1,250 upto 12 hours, if needed. Same day doctor follow up appointment P950, Nurse P300. Additional travel time outside of Cebu City add P150 per hour. http://cebudoctor.com/
JJReyes Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 My wife and I are with an HMO (Kaiser Permanente). The professional designation previously known as GP or Family Doctor is now known as a Primary Care Physician. Within our HMO, he/she is the gatekeeper who refers you to specialists when needed. A new profession is the Nurse Practitioner, a Registered Nurse with two additional years of training. It is something like a Masters program. They can do all the routine medical work including prescribing medicines, but nothing invasive such as ho surgery. The reasoning is to lower costs. You have a highly trained (expensive) medical doctor who then spends their time meeting with diabetes patients. Let someone else do the routine work. Most medical doctors specialize because they receive higher compensation.
