ironmaiden Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 I still have to come across the first Filipino family that saves money Come to Manila, and ill introduce you to one. Wife has two brothers, both college educated. They have two daughters each, all college grads, 3 nurses and 1 computer something or other. each brother owns their own home and the only time we loan money back and forth is when a large amount is needed for some reason to show a large bank balance. So they are out there :cheersty: Of course, there are always exceptions, but 99,9% of people don't save or even try to save, thereby getting themselves into guaranteed trouble further down the road.
Forum Support scott h Posted March 17, 2015 Forum Support Posted March 17, 2015 Of course, there are always exceptions Very, very true. Now I wont even presume to speak of conditions in Belgium or any where in the EU for that matter. But I can speak about the states. There even a good portion of the middle class lives paycheck to paycheck. The poor scramble (we call it the "hustle") to survive, put off paying the phone to pay the electric etc. Pawning a ring to buy some food. etc. Looking objectively there are poor all over the world. Its just that here it slapping us right in the face and actually affects us by being perceived as rich and open to the "touch".
jpbago Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 I still have to come across the first Filipino family that saves money. How many families do you know that borrows money? I don't know of one that doesn't. The underground money lending is horrendous. They don't understand how much interest that they pay (if they pay). My nephew, a PO1 after 4 years of college financed a motorcycle from the dealer but when he found out how much interest that he is paying, he borrowed from the the lender at the Police Station to pay off the motorcycle loan not understanding that he paid the full interest to the dealer for the length of the loan so now is in effect paying double interest.
ironmaiden Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Now I wont even presume to speak of conditions in Belgium or any where in the EU for that matter. My country was ruled by socialists for many decades so you won't see real poverty there and not so many superrich either. But we do - percentagewise - save the highest amount of money in the world I believe I read, which is why it pisses me off maybe more then others when I see how poor people here seem to be unable to plan even a few weeks ahead to try to break the vicious circle of being born poor, have lots of babies who cannot get a decent education ( because no savings ) and therefore no decent job, who themselves will do exactly the same...

I think we can categorize this under the other recent tread here in the forum that people in this country are unable to count. If they could and they would see the total amount they have to pay, maybe they would think twice?

I doubt it very Much, CREDIT is their Middle name, in fact I remember I once said it should be renamed the Republic of the Philippine Credit Islands. They are only ever interested in how much a month and I doubt they know how many months that is over. i am bob Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 The people here are doing nothing more than what they were taught to be acceptible... The only way to change this is for them to be down a different way and also why they should accept these new ways... Simply saying so doesn't improve the situation.
stevewool Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Credit, what do you mean , they dont know Credit, It has taken some of the family to understand that when i lend money i want it back, i dont charge interest but i want the full sum back, As i have said in the quotes before about lending cash also I am very lucky so far that my wife so far has told me that so and so whats some money and then i get involved, Ems says to them i shall ask Steve because all our money is in his account so i need his permission, that sometimes stops them, but if they still ask, i will then ask them when they can repay the loan by and let them tell me how and when they will repay it, then i will lend the cash, so far its worked bar one,but that one will never ever have anything from me again no matter what, just my little way of dealing with this
stevewool Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Just to add to my last thread, the old generation knows credit and how much they charge in there own country, its the young ones that expect free cash and smile when they ask and smile when they get it and then they smile again asking for more, you either love them or :bash:
