Some think if just any Filipino 18 or over is present, the Foreigner is safe. Not true according to Philippine Attorney Laserna, The Law and The Philippine Supreme Court

Republic Act 7610 also provides that if a "person, not a relative of a child, is found alone with the said child inside the room or cubicle of a house, an inn, hotel, motel, pension house, apartelle or other similar establishments, vessel, vehicle or any other hidden or secluded area under circumstances which would lead a reasonable person to believe that the child is about to be exploited in prostitution and other sexual abuse," this can be considered indicative of an attempt to have the child prostituted or subjected to sexual abuse.

Also, some think if their girlfriend is at least 18 years old they are legal. Not true according to Philippine Law and The Philippine Supreme Court.

(a) "Children" refers to person below eighteen (18) years of age or those over but are unable to fully take care of themselves or protect themselves from abuse, neglect, cruelty, exploitation or discrimination because of a physical or mental disability or condition;

I do not have a legal source reference concerning until what age someone can be considered a child in the Philippines.  I have heard until age 25 but I do not know this to be correct.

Many over 18 years of age could claim or perceived to be by Philippine authorities as  unable to fully take care of themselves or protect themselves from abuse, neglect, cruelty, exploitation or discrimination because of a physical or mental disability or condition;.

The Philippine Supreme Court has issued a clear Decision/Precedent on RA 7610 and those older than 18 years of age can be legally considered as """CHILDREN""""".

It is probably due to the simple fact that Filipino-Filipina couples tend to be much nearer in age.  No one seems to know exactly why filipinas like much older white guys -- barring the obvious.  At any rate, a tall white 55 year old guy with a tiny 17 year old girl on his arm will attract farrrr more notice than the same girl with a Filipino boyfriend a few years older.  It's hard.  E.g. I more or less fell in love with an 18 year old Filipina that I met via Facebook -- only to find out that she was just over 17.  She had sent me lots of compromising pics and vids and so that I wouldn't get charged with kiddie porn or whatever, I re-imaged the hard disc in that computer so that I didn't have anything.  She was mature and smart and everything I wanted -- except 18!

There is the famous case of a well known Filipino folk singer, Freddie Aguilar who was threatened with arrest and imprisonment if he married his underage girlfriend. The girl's parents had given their consent, but the age gap between the two was like 30 or 40 years which is the reason for the controversy. So Freddie Aguilar became a convert to Islam; had a big public wedding in Mindanao; and the government couldn't do anything because Muslims are exempt. I recall his girl friend was 16 years at the time.

The number of wives is four,  provided you can support them. Some historians believe that battles diminished the male population. This was a way to provide financial support for young widows and replenish the population.

There are exceptions to every rule especially in Philippines. Especially relating to Filipinos and more so wealthy Filipinos.

I think we can all more or less agree as a Foreigner having a relationship with a young Filipina woman under 18 is not a good choice for a number of reasons. I think most of can understand how someone  could honestly truly fall in love with a mature  Filipina slightly under that age.

And the good news is, he is 65 this year and she is 21 and they are still together and she is pregnant and they are living happily ever after.
