Tukaram (Tim) Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 If you are living right there in Subic it may not be good news but I think an increased US presence here would be good. I feel that one of the worst things the Philipiines ever did for the Philippines was kick the US out.
jon1 Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 Their flight path is about 2 miles south of you. Yeah thanks Jake for reminding me. That means they will be flying over my house on NE take offs. Recently made aware of that by C-17s a month or so ago taking off and passing over my house at 3000ft. It doesn't bother me but a few squadrons might. On the flip side, it is reassuring knowing that someone is there defending you which you do not have now. Hey Jon, If the bubble goes up in the South China Sea region, I just hope you have time enough to bend over kiss your butt goodbye. It's an unlikely scenario but can anyone predict what that NK psycho would do next. His missiles are getting better -- only 1800 miles to Luzon. However, there should be an evacuation plan for US nationals and families to get out of dodge quickly via heavy transports from Cubi Point. Just make sure you take all your secret recipes of making some fine beer......he, he. Thirsty Jake Nah they won't help you as our DoS is a POS! hahaha I think that if that crap ever hit the fan I would end up as a coastwatcher..... I am using my secret recipes of Mango wine to maintain local allegiance to said fermenter! :D Hey Jon, As a coastwatcher, with your fellow Aussie intelligence officers doing covert surveillance operations, it would be right up your alley. I could remember while the USN was there, SERE training was conducted in the jungles off Cubi Point. The indigenous people called Negritos ran that place, training US pilots how to survive the jungle. The US Navy also relied on the Negritos to guard the back door of Subic against the HUKS and other rebels. They did it quite well using only primitive handmade weapons: Negrito warrior.jpg I'm sure you will make many friends with your Mango wine.....he, he. The still have the jungle survival school in Cubi but now as a commercial enterprise and the aetas are still around. I have hired one to take care of my yard.
Markham Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 The Philippines will station new fighter jets and two frigates at the former U.S. naval facility in Subic Bay from early next year, officials said I'm tempted to ask "what frigates" and "what fighter jets"?!!

I saw in the paper the other day that they were just given a couple ships. Still not a very impressive sized Navy...but they can park them next to the US ships in Subic :tiphat:

Have a couple Philippine navy vessels tied abreast to a single US Navy destroyer? Do they have transgenders serving in their navy too? 7/24 duty rack at your service? My personal view about the Philippine military is marked with disappointment and anger. The only branch I would actually stand up and salute would be the Philippine Marines. Do away with their navy and have the marines man all the navy vessels. These snake eaters will do a better job protecting the coastline. Respectfully -- Jake

Respectfully -- Jake Actually Jake, the PhilMar are recruits from the PhilNavy. They start out Navy and have to apply to be a PhilMar. They have a tough selection process and are truly the ones to be trusted over the rest of the Phil Military (aside from the Phil version of SEALs (SWAG).. Most of my Phil Military friends are PhilMar. They often told me stories about the "integries" (MNLF integrated into the Phil Army as part of the peace agreement as the Phil MC refused to accept them) betraying their units with supplying ammunition and arms to their comrades. The PhilMar are tough and resilient and earned my respect early on (nigh 13 years ago).
Jake Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Hey Jon1, I know you spent some jungle time down south in Injun Country and have interface with many Filipino snake eaters. I'm talking about the hard core Filipino marines protecting the home islands. I had the pleasure of actually meeting one retired master sergeant (Judy's uncle) and him and his boys really took care of us. Here are a couple photos with the 2nd one being really sarcastic:
