Gerald Glatt Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 . Words and terms do that over time, You most likely are right. I have changed a little over time also. I color my hair grey with 'Just for old men' I have camouflaged my six pack abs and made them look like a keg and I forget where I put the car keys.

Dave Hounddriver Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 (edited) First world countries are those that aligned with the USA during the cold war, the Philippines has been with the US in every conflict since 1902. Other Asian nation that qualify are Korea and Japan, and Israel. You are the first I have ever heard mention this and I would surely like to read your source. Anything I have studied in history says: After World War II the world split into two large geopolitical blocs and spheres of influence with contrary views on government and the politically correct society: 1 - The bloc of democratic-industrial countries within the American influence sphere, the "First World". 2 - The Eastern bloc of the communist-socialist states, the "Second World". 3 - The remaining three-quarters of the world's population, states not aligned with either bloc were regarded as the "Third World." 4 - The term "Fourth World", coined in the early 1970s by Shuswap Chief George Manuel, refers to widely unknown nations (cultural entities) of indigenous peoples, "First Nations" living within or across national state boundaries. http://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/third_world_countries.htm The same site gives a list of countries of the historical "first world" and I have never seen Philippines on it. Gerald Glatt Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 You are the first I have ever heard mention this and I would surely like to read your source. Anything I have studied in history says: I think I read the same meaning as you, long ago in a poli-sci class, no lists though. I didn't see RP on the third world list, and they were not aligned with the soviet bloc, so no second world, ergo.. Though I never thought of Hungry or the the other eastern European nation s as first world..but as mentioned earlier alliances change, I would have put the Caribbean and the Guyanese nation in SA on first world list even though they are much poorer than other nations in SA and the middle east. Other than the Turks (NATO) hasn't most of the mid east remained neutral. I also thought that the RP was a member of SEATO but I'm relying on memory. Now if I can find those car keys
