Gauranga Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Hello dear expats in the Philippines, Been in Tagaytay for over a year now and really like it. My body doesn't like wheat and gluten, so what I miss are some healthy snacks from back home, like Almonds, Walnuts, Chia seeds, Cranberries, Blueberries, Quinoa etc. Once in a great while I find one of them in store, but usually price is much higher than back home. Thanks for any tips where I can find them!
Forum Support scott h Posted August 10, 2015 Forum Support Posted August 10, 2015 Thanks for any tips where I can find them! Ayala Alabang mall in Las Pinas is probably closest to you. There are several specialty stores that have imported items and cater to expats and affluent Filipinos. You can also try Mall of Asia, Makati or Bonifacio Global City. Any way you look at it your gonna have to come down from your mountain hold out  . Oh and bring your wallet
chris49 Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Doesn't Sta Rosa have an SM Supermarket? Rather than searching randomly, that would be your best bet. I reckon they won't have all that. But almonds I have seen. Frozen blueberries but I have not actively looked for other products. SM Supermarket or Robinsons are the only places I would consider travelling to have a look.
Thomas Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 In your list at least almonds and walnuts are grown in Phils too, but I believe rather uncommon. I mean compared to the common :) How about OTHER nuts and berries? E g cashew nuts are rather commonly grown in Phils = Cost much less than imported stuff. I have forgot where, but somewhere in the south half of Luzon, in the mountains they have profesional growing of "sapirit" = same/similar as wild raspberries.
chrisandging Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 There is a Healthy options store in both festival mall and alabang town center. Get a van from the jeepney terminal to festival mall P75 each way. To alabang town center bus to district mall in Imus then jeep to alabang town center, can't remember the cost but less than P100

Forum Support Old55 Posted August 10, 2015 Forum Support Posted August 10, 2015 I saw a complete line of Bob's Red Mill at a SM Supermarket. The price of my steel cut oatmeal seemed about what we pay here in the US.
earthdome Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Rarely I would see dried cranberries at SM supermarket. Love to add those to salads. My mistake was I only bought 2 bags. I should of bought all 7 bags left on the shelf.
Icebear Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 Hello, Maybe you find these links useful: http://www.healthyoptions.com.ph/stores http://thehealthygrocery.com/ Del Monte has a product range of dried food like dates, apricots, prunes, cranberries etc, what should be easier to find than special imported organic brands. Robinsons and SM have them, but maybe not sorted, where you expect them. You could look at the bakery ingredients, sometimes they are next to them.
