Got this off of Yahoo.

Budget carrier Cebu Pacific has grounded the cabin crew of one of its aircraft following allegations of theft while on a flight from Boracay to China on Tuesday.
“As part of standard procedure, cabin crew members of the flight will be placed on paid leave and a non-flying status pending completion of the investigation,” its statement read.
Paterno Mantaring Jr., Cebu Pacific officer-in-charge for corporate affairs, said the airline launched its own investigation with an independent, third-party security group after it was informed that one of its flight attendants was accused of stealing cash from passengers.
A male flight attendant of Cebu Pacific reportedly took 8,000 RMB (P58,000) from three Chinese passengers, who allegedly left their money in bags placed in the luggage compartments above seat numbers 11, 12 and 13.
The attendant reportedly flushed the money down the toilet and threw some in the trash bin. Authorities were able to recover about P19,000.
Eric Apolonio, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) spokesperson, said in a telephone interview that the agency would only make recommendations after it receives a report on the incident.
“We are waiting for Cebu Pacific’s report,” he said.
If there is a basis, CAAP can recommend the cancellation of the flight attendant’s license.
Tourism undersecretary Benito Bengzon Jr. said it would be “best to wait for the result of the investigation.”

I think this sounds like:  Best to wait until the heat dies down before going back to business as usual.  Personally, I have never put my cash in the overhead bin.

In a previous life, my then partner asked how the toilet worked and if it dropped the deposits into the atmosphere.   I will be keeping an eye out for any floating RMB with a nasty odour!!!

I don't understand. When I put my stuff in an overhead bin I'm aware of it being there. I don't see how anyone could go into the bin and into my stuff without me seeing.

Still I would never leave my money in there.

Something doesn't add up here. How did the flight attendant know there was cash in those bags and I think people would notice a flight attendant rummaging through peoples bags in the overhead compartment. Or was it just a bunch of cash in plastic bags? Sounds kind of fishy to me. More like they are scamming the airline.

If its a 3 hour night flight when you are tired from a long vacation you might be sleeping.

If the others are sleeping too.  I don't know the time of day the flight was, but on the redeye from HongKong to Cebu everyone is usually sleeping.  As to the flight attendant knowing, he may have seen the guy put the money there or it just might be a good guess that something valuable was within easy reach.
