Popular Post stevewool Posted August 18, 2015 Popular Post Posted August 18, 2015 Its been around eight years now since i became interested in anything to do with the Philippines, and its been nearly five years of being married to a beautiful lady from there too. In those five years there have been the ups and downs just like any marriage most probably and i can honestly say most of that was from not understanding her culture, What is the saying , You can take the girl out of the Philippines but you cant take the Philippines out of the girl, Ems life was her family and suddenly she has me to add to that, A BIG KID , yes thats me , and me being me i wanted Ems all to myself who wouldn't, she is going to be my wife and then there would be just me and her , What was i thinking she is no British lady marring a British man and having the same upbringing You just have no idea how strong the feelings are for there family members compared to my feelings towards my kin, yes i love them but we are ment to go out and make our own life from a early age and do good, Were ems life is quite the opposite, We have managed to get this far by talking and listening and loving each other no matter what, i am no lion now just a pussy cat and you know what life is purrrrrrrrfect , well most of the time
Popular Post calasiaobound Posted August 18, 2015 Popular Post Posted August 18, 2015 Communication is fundamental to any successful relationship. Patience and understanding. Keeping ego in check and always listening to each other.. Glad to hear things are working out between the two of you.. Despite the obvious differences..:)
Forum Support Popular Post scott h Posted August 18, 2015 Forum Support Popular Post Posted August 18, 2015 You just have no idea how strong the feelings are for there family members Oh yes we do.. Believe me we do. Mother, Father, brothers and sisters I can understand.............to a point What threw me for a loop was the attachment to aunts, uncles and cousins to the 4th degree. Not to mention batch mates, work mates, confirmation mates ad infinitum. I know I personally have 36 cousins kicking about, but unless most of them had a name tag I could not pick them out of a line up. Fore warned is fore armed Steve. If you do decide to move here and live anywhere close to where your wife was raised be ready for, "oh you and I are related!" or "I am the batch mate of your wife's brother!" It never ends

mogo51 Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Yes Steve east and west will never meet. I am lucky like you, we are in Thailand and don/t have family issues. My gf is pretty good and does not involved me much in family issues. For that I am thankful. But we do speak a bit about it and she knows I am not keen on living too close to her family when in the future we move to Phils. Scott has nailed it and I will be adhering to that philosophy when the time comes - distance is bliss. Thank god for buses in Phils that go eveywhere!!! (except across the water).lol

Forum Support Popular Post scott h Posted August 18, 2015 Forum Support Popular Post Posted August 18, 2015 wife is Godmother to no less than 8 of her batch mates And don't forget being the Substitute "Ninang". Where when our wives were younger and a batch mate was away as an OFW so they became and the batch mates older sister has a child, the wife "stood in" for the batch mate 20 odd years ago. Turns out being the "stand in" is permanent, and 20 some years later your are the "grand ninang"......................Oh my aching head. RUN STEVE..........................RUN WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :hystery: :hystery:
