she was married in a civil ceremony in the Philippines

But Bob, was here marriage "registered"? I believe, and I hope I am wrong is that if her marriage was registered then it is just like being married in the church.

You know we are on your side on this, and we want nothing but the best, but I suggest treading carefully and double and triple checking on something of this import. You got two of your buddies with a different point of view here. I know if I brought up something and you and Jack said I might be mistaken, I sure would do a double check.

This will be good news for some people.

The House of Representatives approved last night a bill that allows a Filipino to remarry in the country if he or she is legally divorced abroad.
Approved on third and final reading was House Bill 5907 or the proposed “Act Recognizing the Capacity of the Filipino Spouse to Remarry When the Alien Spouse has Obtained a Foreign Judicial Decree of Absolute Divorce.”
The bill was authored by Reps. Rufus Rodriguez of Cagayan de Oro and Magtanggol Gunigundo of Valenzuela City.
Some 203 lawmakers voted to pass the measure with Buhay party-list Rep. Lito Atienza voting against it.
Only one out of the 204 congressmen present in yesterday’s session voted against House Bill 5907 or the bill allowing a Filipino spouse to remarry in case the alien spouse has obtained a decree of absolute divorce from a foreign judicial body.
“Buhay party-list cannot participate in the votation of a serious matter that is the product of an erroneous and capricious system where laws are being passed without proper dissemination or information,” Atienza said.
He said he recognizes the good intention of the measure, although it was never debated on floor prior to second reading approval two weeks ago.
Endorsed by the House committee on revision of laws, the measure allows Filipino spouses to remarry if their original partners are able to win a divorce decree from a foreign court.
The bill seeks to amend Executive Order No. 209 or the Family Code of the Philippines.
Another objective of the proposed statute is to simplify the process of recognition of a foreign judgment on divorce obtained by a foreign spouse.

just abolish Christian and civil marriage altogether and be done with it......  after all families are torn apart, Satan will have more time to devote to murder, pornography, prostitution, gambling, drunkenness, idolatry... etc

My future bride someday is married to another foreigner who deserted her and the child he didn't want... Our plan is to go to Canada and, after 6 months, apply for her divorce. No need for him to show up. Divorce isn't recognized here? Tough! It is on every other country and that includes the Vatican. Why? She was married in a civil ceremony and not the church... So the Catholic Church doesn't recognize her marriage... Lol

Sorry Bob not with you on this one. If she was married outside the Philippines there is no way she can get a Divorce. The world over will tell you if The Divorce is recognized in the Country it was solemnized we will divorce you. But not if the Country she married in does not and it ( THE PHILIPPINES) does not Recognize Divorce Civil or Church. BTW I am sure you may be mistaken about the VATICAN

Best of luck mate But................

That's just it, Jack, she was married in a civil ceremony in the Philippines. Because we can't get her a divorce here, we get her a Conjugal Visa for Canada. 6 months later she can apply for her divorce. Only reason for divorce in Canada, by the way, is Breakdown of the Family Unit... And foreigners can apply for their divorce after being in country for 6 months. Recognized in every country in the world EXCEPT the Philippines... Lol! As the Catholic Church doesn't recognize Civil Marriages, she can even be married in the Catholic Church after... I've researched this very thoroughly because it was the big block to us being together... She was upset as she thought she would be sinning... But the church just don't care. We fill out a form, it goes to some Catholic committee who looks at it, says she wasn't married in the eyes of the church, sends back another document and she's good to go! We can then be married in the RC Church if we so desire...

Then I wish you luck bob but first, you got to get her and the Children to Canada. Best of luck with that too.

Now lets shut the Troll up EH? Before someone says something to upset the Boss.

Jack

Edit because it is time for bed and I am soooooooooooo Tired.

Yes, a Civil ceremony and registered... But you are both missing one point I made... In Canada! I would give up my dream of living in the Philippines if this is the only way we could be together... She doesn't want me to do that but it's choose one or the other... And that means it's really no choice at all... She's my choice every time!

What can I/we say to that. :)

We can say that people make bad choices every day, and there are civil and religious laws that have consequences.  The creators of those laws wanted us to make better choices to help keep society wholesome, firm, strong, wise. I thought my last wife was going to be that last, but she wasn't.  We might still be together if she hadn't learned some bad habits from american women, or if the divorce laws were a bit more restricted, or if more people practiced the christian religion they profess.

It's funny what a little tail and a nice face will do to a thinking man.....  I've seen it a thousand times - we all have.  There are a lot of fish in the ocean, and some of those virgin fish are deserving of a good man; the non-virgin fish get what they can.  Birds of a feather flock together.... and what comes around goes around... and we sew what we reap... and we are products of our environment..... all these sayings created for fathomable reasons.  There is always a choice, until we become slaves to unwholesome passion.
