I have a friend who sits about 4 ft from the TV because she recently told me she has eye problems but its not in her family's budget to buy them. I was wondering does anyone know of a good eye glasses store with good prices in cebu city?

I took my daughter when she was here to SM Mall, there are lot's of Eye Specialists there, she had some prescription glasses made for everyday use costs was around 4000 pesos, that was awhile back, sorry can't remember the name but they are all much the same.

No, I do not know anything about Cebu but my wife is near sighted but refuses to wear glasses. She prefers to hold something at arms length to read it. She is squinting as she reads it.

I tell her that glasses enhance a woman's appearance. They make them appear intelligent. For my comment, I get a mean stare.

I bought mine by shopping around SM Mall optometrist shops.  You have to shop around as the prices are all over the place.  I eventually paid 8,000 for eye exam, frames, and lenses.  A good friend of mine recommended I go to J Mall next time.   He told me he got progressive lenses in nice frames for a bit less than that.

Is 8,000 a good price?  I hope other's chime in with better deals as I'm about ready for a new prescription.

Dave for you here, I can recommend "Vicky Santiago" in Ever mall, Progressive with Frames about 4 to 5000  of course it Depends on the frame but I have always found her very Good and reasonable cost. I have no knowledge of Cebu for these things, Sorry.

My gf has replaced her bifocals with progressive lenses recently, the cost was 3,500p. She had the lenses fitted into her original frames, took about an hour from eye test to collection. I replaced mine in the UK last year, they refuse to use original frames and they took two weeks. Cost, £160 and they call themselves specsavers!!

She does not need Rx,prescription eyewear.

She needs and form of lastic frame generic glasses which come in variable strengths. 100 pesos in any market area. Or for 100-300 in any optometrist shop in any mall. It's just a matter of trying the different strengths.

I respectfully disagree.  Those are reading glasses to magnify close images and do SFA at 4 ft away and if she cannot see the TV from a further distance then the glasses Chris recommends would simply blur the image more.

Oops yes, you are right. I don't use my reading glasses to watch TV so cheers Dave, my bad.....

8k you quoted earlier is to much though. I paid 4k with the Optician's evaluation, right there in the shop. SM.

I'm going to have to get this taken care of soon. My vision is deteriorating.  I am reading this on 125% magnification PLUS wearing my glasses and it is blurry.

So the question is:  Do I need to see an ophthalmologist or an optometrist? I suspect most people who want to sell glasses are just optometrists but would they tell you (or even notice) if you had an underlying condition that needed more advanced treatment?  Where would I even find an ophthalmologist and would I need a referral?
