Guy F. Posted January 12, 2016 Author Posted January 12, 2016 I was very wrong about the plywood. It is Marine plywood but it is only about 1 cm thick. We are finding other examples of very cheap materials used in the finish work.

jpbago Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 I wonder why drywall on metal trusses is not used for ceilings. Termites would not be a problem. If water leaks or moisture is the problem, I find marine plywood no good as the laminates peel off when wet.
Jack Peterson Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 (edited) My ceilings are Hardifex on Alloy Furlings strung from the roof Trusses 3 years up now and not a problem Spelling Edit :mocking: Edited January 13, 2016 by Jack Peterson
jpbago Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 I have hardiflex on the 8 year extension soffits and some of it has cracked at the screw holes and broken away. It is very brittle now and difficult to repair. We have to patch on top of the broken areas. Also, it has no vents. For this, vented aluminum is better. I saw some plastic 6 inch wide and 8 or 10 feet long that looks like wood but for a ceiling, it might sag over time.
