Mike S Posted September 30, 2015 Author Posted September 30, 2015 (edited) You mentioned Senior Discount in your original post, and in the one about the bill. Can you explain what this is ? Are you a Filipino ? No I'm not a Filipino .... and I don't have a Philippine Senior Citizen card .... we didn't expect the discount it was just given to us when we checked out ..... maybe because I'm 70 years old .... I don't know and my last name definitely can't be confused with a Filipino's ..... to date I have never asked for a senior discount and don't expect one ..... And please don't anyone turn this thread into debating the pro's and con's of a foreigner having or getting a Filipino Senior Citizen Card ..... there are more than enough threads on that topic elsewhere on the board .... :cheersty: Edited September 30, 2015 by Mike S

OnMyWay Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 (edited) OK update as promised ...... hospital bill .... the confusing part of the bill is when you pay for partial payment it makes the bill look strange and hard to read ..... at least to me .... we put p20,000 up front for the pharmacy so J didn't have to keep making trips down there to get my meds and posted p30,000 upfront ...... as you can see PhilHealth paid squat and I didn't ask for the senior discount they just gave it to us ..... Hospital Bill 9-19-2015 001.jpg ..... My advise keep some cash somewhere you can get your hands on if you need to .... remember it was Mon. 2:30am when I arrived at the ER ..... not sure if they would have admitted me with just the Philhealth as we took the P20,000 with us just in case .... it could just as easily been Sat. morning with no banks open till Mon. morning ..... plan accordingly My meds are totaling a bit over p10,000 per month with a few I don't need and to be taken as needed ..... some will be a lifetime commitment while others can be changed ..... I choose not to go with all generic as unlike the US they are not that regulated here ...... the Lipitor is one of the expensive ones .... and I have read that several of the generic branded ones from India were recalled and I don't need to deal with that .... :tiphat: :hystery: :hystery: It is very hard to understand what Philhealth will pay. I heard that they basically cover the room (yours seems about like that) and I was surprised when they covered other things for my daughter: http://www.philippines-expats.com/topic/22903-hospital-philhealth-experience/page-1 So for you they paid ~8500 for an extended stay and for my daughter they paid ~5000 for a 1 night non-emergency. Maybe it has something to do with how long you have paid in or your status? Katy is under Abby's Philhealth. Mike S Posted September 30, 2015 Author Posted September 30, 2015 (edited) It is very hard to understand what Philhealth will pay. I agree note they partially paid the cardiologist but none of the others ..... my other Dr. gave us a discount ..... the other Dr. was a fill in for the cardiologist as she was in Manila when I was admitted ..... and the last I believe was the ER Dr. I'm on J's PhilHealth as I didn't want to have my own .... they probably would pay any more even if I did .... and at 70 other insurance is impossible ..... most cut you off here at 65 Maybe it has something to do with how long you have paid in or your status We have been paying for Philhealth for 8+ years and this is the first time we have used it .... :cheersty: Edited September 30, 2015 by Mike S
WordsandMusic Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Has anyone used the VA there for health care. I was told the VA would pay for transportation to and from the Va in Manila and an over night stay in hotel. Anyone experience this?

Mike S Posted October 3, 2015 Author Posted October 3, 2015 One question which would interest me, would you recommend Adventist over Riverside? I Sorry RBM I missed this somehow .... well I can't say anything about comparing the two as I have only been to Riverside to visit one of my Dr's ..... she has an office and clinic there ...... but I will say If I have to go back to the hospital I will choose Adventist again because of the care I got there ..... I do have another echo-gram to do of my heart again and the Cardiologist has it scheduled for Riverside as their machine is better as the one in the Adventist ....... they couldn't get full penetration of my heart ...... :cheersty:
