If you end up buying a new SUV, check out the new 2015/16 Ford Everest.  I think it is now the leader in the class.  Here is an article by James Deakin:

As Cousin Eddie says, "That's a good looking' vehicle."

Anyone have any thoughts on the new Ranger Wildtrak v the new Toyota Hilux ?

Been seeing the nifty looking Wildtrak on the road, but have no comparison studies. Must be diesil or therunning costs would be too high.

The 2.5 litre Crosswind, Isuzu makes or assembles in the Philippines, costs less in both cases. On the 3.0 litre DMax I owned I found the power to be amazing, But normally, normal driving, you wouldn't need it.

The Innova is a nice vehicle. Don't see too many in the province though, more of a street car for city driving.

Hey Dave,

I went the el cheapo route: http://www.philippines-expats.com/topic/13209-cheap-multicab/#entry73690

It kept me mobile through torrential rain, shallow rivers and mud up to the axle in Mindoro.  Good luck finding your next set of wheels!

my budget would be no greater than $20k

That's only 930K pesos and I can't think of a decent SUV for that price, unless you like the Hyundai Tucson which starts at about US$ 23,000 http://www.hyundai.ph/Showroom/Tucson

You may want to look at the Toyota Innova which is more van than SUV.  They call it an MPV but you can pick up a new, basic model for your budget and its a Toyota. http://www.toyotapricelist.com/toyota-innova.html

Decisions, decisions - good that I have a year or 2 to worry about it. Going the Tucson route is a definite consideration. It's smaller but new at $23k its an option!

I also see the Mits Adventure is a smaller diesel SUV at under 1million P.

The Isuzu crosswind is an option as mentioned. But check out their MU-X. I kind of like the diesel automatic.

That's the model I'm buying. Can be up to 15 seats with the 3 folding seats at the back. Still under the Crosswind series, right?

I don't think. The MU-X is an AUV. 7 passengers most I believe. I think they said it is basses on the Chevy Trailblazer. Almost 50 mph diesel. Maybe 40 is my hopes.

Looks a lot different and the price is more, though still not bad. Here's a list of models and prices:

Right the MU-X is new model, 3.0 litre.

I was referring to the XU-V which has fold down seats in the back. Officially listed as an 11 seater.
