Steve we all have them and it will never Change. What part of NO do they not Understand. Now the Question was is "Blood Thicker than Water" to me Not necessarily. Azon has now got the Understanding that if they Want, they ask me Direct, Got a problem, then talk to my face not my Back cos I have learned the costly way. Help is Help, Greed and stupid spending can stay at your own Door.

I am half way there with this, Ems will always tell them she will ask Steve first

Gee, and I thought it was only me. :) I am very fortunate as my wife is tighter than I when it comes to doling out money to her relatives. If she asks me for money for a certain cause I know it's legitimate or she wouldn't be asking. Of course I have the buffer of still being in the States.

I guess that can work both ways, with regard to location.  We try to live a comparable lifestyle to wife's family and relatives, so while they probably make jokes about how poor we are, at least they never ask for anything.  As soon as we upscale a little (as we are planning to do), or move back to the US, I'm sure the expectations for 'help' will increase.  But like you say, there's a buffer between you then and while some may ask for more because they think you have more, at least you won't get "nickle and dime" to death.

Yes. Because of that and to reduce jelousy among neighbours I prefer:

/dressing as a poor farmer (but I like Thai farmer's clothes style better, long wide legs to get some protection against snake bites.)

/an as uggly car as possible - but good functioning. If I don't find one, I will perhaps buy an uggly (stainless) car and replace engine and such.  A supercar looking crap

/an uggly house. But it's a problem I want a BIG house. (To get space for the business, plus I want the main living space to be at the SECOND floor of security reasons.)
