BrettGC Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 (edited) A Catholic "socialist" (people put me in that box, I don't necessarily agree) is going to visit a "born again" and Marcos lover... What could possibly go wrong?? I know it's going to be hard to keep criticism of politics out this discussion but feel free to point out the differences that may come into major conflict; look at the human factor. Tom, Dave et al, feel free to shut it down as soon as it becomes silly. Edited November 12, 2015 by BrettGC

BrettGC Posted November 12, 2015 Author Posted November 12, 2015 You have made this post in Relationships - Internet Dating and I have no clue what this is all about. Care to elaborate? Edited my origial post Dave to be more reasonable. Me, a practicing capital "C" catholic, with a strong social conscious, is going to meet a girl I met in RL years ago through filipino friends. We've been in correspondence in the last few months on the internet. Not it's not a internet dating site but yes, it is still the internet. She's a born again Christian (they really don't like catholics generally speaking) and remembers Ferdinand Marcos with fondness (yes, she's old enough to remember his regime) and is a strong supporter of his progeny in the current election campaign. So on the surface, diametrically opposed.
Popular Post Hey Steve Posted November 12, 2015 Popular Post Posted November 12, 2015 My question in this topic, Brett would be ..What is the over-riding motivating factor in visiting this lady since all we know is you disagree on 2 critical elements (religion & politics). I'm sure when it comes to matters of the heart-anything is possible-just curious about the common ground drawing you to this visit. All the best when you meet her too!
Jake Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 (edited) I don't see anything that could go possibly wrong with your first rendezvous. I agree with Hey Steve with his Kansas logic, that emotional and spiritual compatibility will take a back seat to physical attraction. I believe in most cases, it's the chemical reaction that will spark the passion (heart palpitations, increase blood flow to certain organs). To be followed by the other mundane stuff. However, just to play it safe.....you can have a BB box full of shoes and other Imelda-rific bling-blings for her....he, he. Popular Post virginprune Posted November 12, 2015 Popular Post Posted November 12, 2015 Politics and religion are personal to the individual and in any relationship the others views/beliefs should be respected and surely should not distract from a relationship if all other areas are compatible. In fact these differences can give rise to interesting debate. Two examples, my brother is an atheist, his wife is very Christian, happily married for 40 years. My best friend is a Tory, his wife is a socialist, happily married for 30 years. I would suggest go for it and see where the compatibility is strongest after the "honeymoon period"
Popular Post frosty (chris) Posted November 12, 2015 Popular Post Posted November 12, 2015 Well some people still think Kevin Rudd was a good PM, so there you go. What I have found here is most people that are religious tend to keep it too themselves in as much as they are not trying to convert you every time you meet. For me the first question I would ask is what beer do you drink and the second would you like to go shoe shopping :hystery:
Popular Post mogo51 Posted November 13, 2015 Popular Post Posted November 13, 2015 My significant other is a catholic and I a heathen, but we are happy. I had to learn to respect her beliefs though.
