Philippines priest suspended for delivering Christmas eve address on hoverboard

 

The clergyman sang a song while moving up and down the aisles on the self-balancing scooter, which the diocese claimed was 'not right'

 

A priest in the Philippines was suspended by the Catholic diocese for sashaying up and down the church aisles on a hoverboard while addressing parishioners on Christmas eve. The priest was videotaped delivering his unusual sermon in San Pablo, Laguna, to scattered applause and amusement.A statement by the diocese posted on Facebook read: "As a way of greeting his parishioners, the priest sang a Christmas song, while going around the nave standing on a hoverboard. That was wrong.” It said the priest was trying to "capriciously introduce something to get the attention of the people" and that he would now spend some time reflecting on his actions.

 

The priest's identity was not disclosed. Viewers of the Facebook post seemed to be split on the issue, with some commending the diocese's stern action, while others said the church needed to do things like this to attract youngsters.

Y says she likes the idea of reaching out to the teens but riding around the church on one of them is akin to riding up and down the aisles on a bicycle.  Neither is appropriate to the solemnity of the service.  So sayeth my favorite filipina  :tiphat:

I think the church was concerned that the message may have been "look at me" when the message should be about celebrating the birth of Christ. Perhaps if he had chosen a different service and/or venue there would have been less controversy. Good he is willing to try something different but a liitle over the top considering the occasion.

Yea I saw this on TV the other night and laughted so hard I damn near wet my pants ...... J suggested he should wear a longer gown and ride up and down the aisle so the people would think he was performing a miracle by appearing to float ..... now that would have been cool .....  :thumbsup:  a new Saint could have been born .... :hystery:  :hystery:

I keep seeing headlines calling that a hover board... if it has wheels - it ain't hovering.  I don't blame you, Jolly.  You are just reporting what the reporters incorrectly reported. ha ha. :tiphat:
