Jollygoodfellow Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 OK , which one of you Dumaguete dwellers have been given notice. Dumaguete City (CNN Philippines) — A group of concerned youth headed to the streets of Dumaguete City to educate erring motorists who park their vehicles in non-parking spots on Wednesday (January 20). Denniz Futalan, a photographer and the administrator of the Facebook group "I Park like an Idiot in Dumaguete City," said in an interview that they started a social movement to educate motorists and to make them adhere to traffic rules and regulations. Futalan shared his frustrations on motorists who ignore traffic signs, especially "no parking" signs, which he said often leads to road congestion. He said the city streets are not wide enough and there are too many vehicles plying the roads, and if you add the erring drivers to the mix, it would lead to traffic. Educate the public He shared one of the ways their group is educating motorists in Dumaguete is by approaching and informing them that they are causing traffic when they park illegally. He said that for the unattended cars and motorcycles that are illegally parked, flyers will be posted on their vehicles with an illustration on how to park their vehicles properly. Futalan hopes that this social movement will remind the city officials of the lapses that they are missing in the implementation of the rules. If the city officials cannot perform their duties, the people will do it for them, he lamented. http://cnnphilippines.com/regional/2016/01/21/Erring-motorists-parking-Dumaguete-City.html
Dave Hounddriver Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 for the unattended cars and motorcycles that are illegally parked, flyers will be posted on their vehicles with an illustration on how to park their vehicles properly. And they would obey flyers but not the posted signs? Should be good for a bit of gossip but not much else.
Jollygoodfellow Posted January 22, 2016 Author Posted January 22, 2016 And they would obey flyers but not the posted signs? Should be good for a bit of gossip but not much else. Well at least they might embarrass city officials which might do some good. RBM Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 I applaud their efforts how ever knowing how Dumaguete people drive doubt any effect. Being ultra negative doubt any city official will even stir from his sleep. Been driving around Bacolod all day today, just mentioned how much more pleasant it is compared to Dumaguete. Has its moments with Jeepneys for sure, how ever over all easy compared to Dumaguete.
Forum Support scott h Posted January 22, 2016 Forum Support Posted January 22, 2016 Well at least they might embarrass city officials which might do some good. YOu know? In todays environment of social media, and the importance public officials seem to place on the "netizen" this might be about the only way to effect any real change. The great goo knows that most laws don't
robert k Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Parking in Dumaguete? There isn't enough of it for automobiles. Some places where it is posted no parking ARE wide enough for parking on both sides of the street and TWO lanes for driving and traffic and congestion usually occurs when a tricycle driver double parks, stops to have a conversation blocking the road, or drives 1 km per hour looking for a fare. Many cars and tricycles split the lanes because of the double parking. I have said before and will say again that it would be great to have a tricycle in Dumaguete because with a tricycle you can literally park anywhere no matter how stupid or against regulations. I realize that if there were no cars that the tricycle drivers would (hopefully but not certainly) not double park. I believe that they may well double park anyway as I have seen them do when there were empty space at the curb ten meters farther ahead. I had also had passerby tell me that I could not park there. They did not tell anyone else who was parking there, just the kano. I told them to go ahead and write me a ticket. :hystery: It costs a heck of a lot more to park in downtown Ft. Worth Texas than 50 php of the ticket. I did not often park in the no parking zones. I received 3 parking tickets in a year. I would frequently park over 1 km from where I needed to go and walk but sometimes that was just not practical. As was mentioned above, I found Bacolod traffic much better. I even took pictures of the streets to show people in Dumaguete who had never been there. I'm sure traffic can be a bear at times in Bacolod but probably not bad if you time what excursions you can to off peak times. I do that wherever I am anyway. Dumaguete is 10 kilos of stuff in a 5 kilo bag. If you can solve that problem, I think the rest will be a piece of cake. A bypass so Nat'l highway traffic doesn't have to go through the center of the city would help but would not solve the problems. Even with the bypass I think Dumaguete would be back to this point again in 5 years or less. Dumaguete may not get a bypass in the next 20 years and traffic will get worse year after year. That is my take on it after living 10 Km outside of Dumaguete and driving there at least every other day for just under a year.
Dave Hounddriver Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Dumaguete may not get a bypass in the next 20 years There is a road designated for a future bypass and some of it is built. You can acually use the road to bypass Dumaguete but it is not practical and parts of it are just dirt road. But the funny part is the very nice house in the middle of the road. When you use this future bypass (which you cannot use this month due to bridge construction) you come to a house parked in the middle of the south bound land. Talk about parking like an idiot. :hystery: I am guessing he is a lawyer or someone important because the road narrows to one lane just so people can go around his house. Yes, I should take a picture, but I always forget. Sorry :tiphat:
robert k Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Dave, I'm not quite ready to give up my 20 year estimate. Let me know if they complete it before then and I will stand corrected. I still think I have a better than even chance of being right as funds can run out or the project be torpedoed and the jungle reclaim it..
