Expats In Philippines Top 10 Movies

I would say its common for expats in Philippines to watch a lot of movies to pass the time.  Some go to the cinema while others buy DVDs.  Then there are the movies on TV and downloaded from the 'net

This thread is for those of us who enjoy movies to tell our TOP 10 personal favorite movies that we have watched at least 10 times in our lives and we recommend others to watch them too.  Its just for fun and sharing but maybe someone will rediscover a new old favorite movie.  I'll start (I've numbered them but they are in no particular order other than the way they came to mind).

10  Gone With the Wind

9   Forrest Gump

8   Casablanca

7   Rob Roy

6   Full Metal Jacket

5   The Great Escape

4   Bridge on the River Kwai

3   Titanic

2   Platoon

1   Beauty and the Beast

And honorable mention goes to the 1964 movie Zulu which I have not seen 10 times but still rank it on the top movies list.

I'll try to think of some more and add to my list in a bit.  Time to eat supper.  :hystery: so I'll let the rest of you think of your lists.

EDIT:  Here's my top 10 so if there are any of these movies you missed or forgot about, give them another look.  I look forward to seeing what the rest of you recommend.

Nice choices. I have hear of all of the movies mentioned, but some i haven't seen. Their reputation speaks loads and i respect them.

7 - Abyss

6 - Silence of the Lambs

5 - Star Wars : A New Hope

4 - Pulp Fiction

3 - Matrix ( Original )

2 - Citizen Kane

1 - Shawshank Redemption

Honorable mentions would be :

Full Metal Jacket

Saving Private Ryan

Apocalypse Now

Great Escape

Die Hard

Josef Goebbels considered "Gone with The Wind" and "Snow White" to be the greatest films ever made. He did not get to see "Citizen Kane", due to the late unpleasantness between his Third Reich and just about everybody, but he would have had a great career as a film critic, if he hadn't wasted his time with politics.

I have put in options being films that are in some ways similar, apart from "Citizen Kane" which is so far the greatest film ever made that it has to stand on its own...

1. Citizen Kane.

2. Gone with The Wind / All Quiet on the Western Front

3. "Snow White" / Beauty and the Beast

4. Casablanca / The Maltese Falcon

5.Breakfast at Tiffany's / The World of Suzie Wong

6. The Sound of Music / South Pacific

7. Lawrence of Arabia / Dr Zhivago

8. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance / The Searchers

9. Four Weddings and a Funeral / Chariots of Fire

10. 2001 /  Das Boot

K is no fun to watch a Filipino movie with; she gets annoyed with them, despite or perhaps because of her having been in the business. Watching one with her means a running commentary on the weak scripting, poor casting, bad lighting. poor camera work, bad set dressing, etc, etc, etc...   . Her knowledge of film is formidable, and I will happily bow to her judgment.  The list above is a joint list

1. Apocalypse Now

2. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

3. A Clockwork Orange

4. Bladerunner ( Director's Cut )

5. Seven

6. Barton Fink

7. Once Upon A Time In The West

8. Life Of Brian

9. The Big Lebowski

10. Fargo

These are films that I've watched numerous times and always enjoyed...there are many more of course and I concede great film status to many already mentioned in the above posts.

I'll need more time to think this out because some of the greats have been mentioned.  If mini series fit this bill also I will add two of these first?

1) Lonesome Dove

2) Winds of War

3) Final Countdown

4) Kelly's Heroes

5) It's a Wonderful Life

6) Sound of Music

I reserve the right to add to my list at a later date.

Alien

Blade runner

Last man standing

Boondock Saints

Terminator

Doctor Strangelove

Full Metal Jacket

Hard Times

Outworld
