We're not allowed to interfere in Philippine politics, as it should be, but we are allowed to observe. Here is one chilling observation from US media

Where do I go if The Donald wins?

My own observation is that Filipinos are quite tolerant of mediocrity, easily fall prey to the quick fix, and willing to ignore glaring problems, for example, in education. I am sponsoring a nursing student at a public university. His algebra teacher missed half the class meetings, and never discussed "solve for X", the heart of algebra. Never discussed it, not even in passing. I suggested that he complain to the administration, but he was perfectly happy doing no work and still receiving a good grade. Where was the teacher? Off on personal business. Now he's facing, in an advanced class, the problem of administering proper medicinal dosage based on the doctor's instructions. Algebra is involved here, and he's lost. What's to happen to his future patients, will they be lost, too? The future looms.

The Filipinos are new to democracy and many don't care.  They are raised by the church and the government to be serfs - and quite  a lot are happy with that ("That is just the way it is" - not a good political mantra).  Democracy takes a lot of work, and personal responsibility. 

Unfortunately in the last 40 years Americans have trained the same way.

Glad I am retired and live away from the city. As long as my dollars retains some relative value to the peso, I will be ok no matter who wins in either country.

is something I hear disturbing often. I too live far from NCR (Puerto Princesa) so maybe not much cause for alarm. I have confidence that US will come to her senses and not elect The Donald.
