Old west style duel in Dumaguete- One dead

Some things are just settled the old fashion way I guess. 

 

MANILA, Philippines -- A gun duel between two men in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental left one of them dead Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The shootout between Jun Jun Acabal, alias “Palic,” of Sibulan town, and Joven Dela Torre, a resident of Barangay Daro in the city, broke out around 2 p.m. at St. John and 23rd Streets in Daro, Senior Superintendent Haris Fama, provincial police director, reported to Camp Crame.

Acabal lost the duel and was declared dead on arrival at the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital.

Dela Torre, on the other hand, was wounded in the right leg and was arrested at the Silliman University Medical Center where he sought treatment.

Yep, the old West-Philippine style. Justice the hard way. Years ago I lived in Masbate province on a very small, primitive, jungle island. I once saw two adult men (in their 30's or 40's) settle a serious argument by both going into the jungle with bolo's (machetes) and only one of them return. Shocking so see but it solved what to them seemed like an unsolvable problem - whatever it was.
